Ever since I clicked on Mosaic in 1995, I got hooked on the internet. This first browser was truly amazing and I just loved the idea of having access to seemingly endless information at my fingertips. I played around with all the hot stuff at that time, like ftp, gopher, email and what not. It was a crazy time back then and most stuff was still black and white. 
I spent 95/96 in Berkeley, California, and just across the bay in the Silicon Valley was on fire with the World Wide Web. I just loved all the innovation that happened all of a sudden, like Firefly, one of the first recommendation websites for music. So I started to learn how to do this newfangled HTML thingy and build websites, homepages as we called them back then. After I came back to Göttingen I teamed up with some friends and built a network infrastructure for the university's student housing. This was fun and I learned all the nitty gritty stuff about CAT6, Linux, routing protocols and what not. 
I started my first job as CTO at orangemedia, a digital advertising network which is now called Ströer Digital and one of the market leaders in Germany. This position gave me an opportunity to work with new technology, explore new ideas and build new products - as well as learning leadership skills and managing a growing team of developers. Also I build my first startup called Blogg.de, which was a very early blog platform. After moving to the holding company and building new products there and also starting two of my own startups (Mabber and Shoppero), I got the opportunity to scout startups and do due diligence on them before we made a final investment decision. The Web 2.0 was in full bloom and I enjoyed it tremendously as more innovation than before was possible. We basically built a company builder before the term existed. 
Right when Social Media took off, I joined the renowned advertising group Scholz & Friends as Director Social Media and got to work with clients like Vodafone, Opel, Credit Suisse, Commerzbank, Sunrise and TUI. 
After S&F I briefly ran an incubator, but figured that the model was not right for me and I was looking into starting an accelerator. That opportunity came in 2015 when I started the next media accelerator together with the German Press Agency dpa to provide accelerator services to the media industry in Germany and Austria. In 2021 my partner Christoph and I did a management buy.out to revamp the model and offer startup-driven innovation to more industries.
To sum it all up: I'm deeply interested in how tech changes everything and I'm always looking for innovation.

I started a newsletter today. It's called The Agentic Founder. 

It's about what happens when two people decide to build real product with AI agents instead of a dev team. Issue #1 is the honest version of that story. 

And yes, that is my dog, she lies next to me while I let the agents code.

Ich habe so viele Pitchdecks in meinem Leben gesehen, ich habe aufgehört, sie zu zählen. Seit 25 Jahren gucke ich mir Pitchdecks an und versuche, zu verstehen, was Gründerinnen und Gründer mit dem Pitchdeck ausdrücken wollen. Ich habe unzählige Sessions mit Gründerinnen und Gründern gehabt und ihnen erläutert, wie ein gutes Pitchdeck auszusehen hat, wie der Flow sein muss und was alles enthalten, also "drin" sein muss. 

Da wir jetzt ja im Agentic AI Zeitalter leben, kam mir vor ein paar Wochen die Idee, doch einfach mal zu gucken, was passiert, wenn ich einen Agenten baue, diesen mit dem Wissen über Startup-Pitchdecks ausstatte und dann einfach mal ein Deck hochlade. Das Ergebnis war ok. Dann habe ich weiter an dem Agenten rumgefriemelt, jetzt ist das Ergebnis super und vor allem hilfreich. Und das Beste: der Agent wird nicht müde, immer und immer wieder das Pitchdeck durchzugucken und zu sagen: "ändere bitte Slide 3, dort wird die Aussage nicht klar." 

Naja, und dann habe ich mir gedacht: "wenn wir nun schon mal ein Pitchdeck haben und wissen was das Startup tut, dann kann man doch viel besser eine Investorin oder einen Investor finden!" - also habe ich mal eben alle VC Firmen in Europa in eine Datenbank getopft und damit angefangen, deren Investment Professionals ebenfalls zusammenzutragen. Denn so können wir direkt die besten Investment Professionals für das Startup finden und vermeiden endlose Listen, die man durchscrollen und filtern muss. 

Und dann haben Christoph und ich uns zusammengesetzt und uns folgendes überlegt: "ach, wenn wir schon mal dabei sind, dann bauen wir einfach eine Agentic AI Platform basierend auf Masumi, dann können wir kontinuierlich neue Agenten dazu bauen, die im Hintergrund Aufgaben erledigen, für die eine Gründerin oder ein Gründer eh zu wenig Kapazität haben, außerdem lernt das System mit und kann dadurch vielfältigst unterstützen." 

Und so haben wir eine Agentic AI Platform gebaut, quasi das Startup Founder OS, in das unsere Arbeit aus 10 Jahren NMA mit Accelerator-Programm und Investments in über 70 Startups reingeflossen sind.

Analysen von DocSend zeigen: VCs verbringen im Schnitt unter zwei Minuten mit einem Pitchdeck. Zwei Minuten.

Nicht, weil deine Idee schlecht ist – sondern weil Aufmerksamkeit knapp ist.
Stell dir vor, dein Team ist stark, dein Produkt marktreif, der Markt riesig – und dein Deck fällt durch, weil eine Argumentationslinie unsauber ist oder eine Hypothese nicht sauber belegt wird. Das ist kein Qualitätsproblem. Das ist ein Strukturproblem.

Don't Build a Faster AI Idiot.

the vc investment landscape is fascinating - and changing rapidly due to what's possible with AI.

If pre-seed & seed valuations feel irrational right now, you’re not crazy.

Some founders are struggling to raise a pre-seed.

And in the same market, many are raising seed rounds at a $5B post.

Both are true.

Last week at Metal, we hosted Alex Iskold (Founder & Partner at 2048 Ventures) to talk to 200+ founders.

His view was blunt:
• Every single deal is competitive
• The world is really split right now
• Pre-seed valuations have softened recently
• $20M post for a strong seed is very fair

What about $80M post seeds?

Not something he underwrites as a rule.

But there are exceptions - they recently participated at $60M post.

Outliers do skew perception.

That’s what’s making this market feel confusing.

Helping companies productionize AI

If you’re not aware of the Cloudflare / Vercel beef last week, here’s your catchup. Cloudflare rebuilt Next.js with only $1,100 worth of tokens in a week. They call it Vinext.

1/ 1 week. 1 engineer. AI doing all the coding. $1,100 in tokens.

Builds are already 1.6x faster in production. And with the next version of Vite, 4.4x faster. Bundles are 57% smaller.

Here's how they did it:

2/ Context: Next.js is great to build with, but terrible to deploy outside Vercel.

OpenNext was the previously the best workaround. It reverse-engineers Next.js' build output and adapts it for other platforms.

It’s hit or miss. Every Next.js version update becomes breaks things that you have to fix.

3/ Many teams tried to fix this properly, including Cloudflare. But the scope is just enormous: 2 routers, 33+ module shims, RSC streaming, middleware, caching.

So the Cloudflare team tried again, but with AI. Initially, they didn't think it would work (spoiler: it DID).

4/ The numbers:

With the current Vite 7 / Rollup bundler: 1.6x faster builds, 56% smaller bundles. With Vite 8 / Rolldown (not released yet): 4.4x faster.

Rolldown is a Rust bundler. It’ll be a HUGE upgrade when they release it soon.

Benchmark note: Next.js TypeScript checking and ESLint were disabled to match what Vite runs. Factor that in.

5/ The most interesting feature: Traffic-aware Pre-Rendering.

Vinext queries Cloudflare's own zone analytics at deploy time. Pre-renders only the pages that actually get traffic.

6/ Power law does the rest.

100k product pages, but 90% of traffic hits 50-200 of them. Those get pre-rendered in seconds. Everything else falls back to on-demand SSR and caches after the first hit.

Pages that go viral get picked up automatically on the next deploy. No generateStaticParams() needed.

7/ The build process is the interesting part for anyone using AI agents.

Every PR went through the same gates: 1,700 Vitest tests, 380 Playwright E2E tests, TypeScript checking, linting. The AI wrote the code. The guardrails caught the mistakes.

800+ sessions in OpenCode over one week.

8/ Why did this work when previous attempts failed?

Next.js is exhaustively documented. The AI knows the API cold.

The test suite gave a spec to verify against. Vite handled the hard bundler stuff. The model could hold the full architecture in context.

Remove any one of those, and it probably couldn’t work, which is why it was really only possible to do now.

9/ “Most software abstractions exist because humans can't hold the whole system in their heads. We built layers to manage our own cognitive limits.”

You need fewer engineers to work on more complex projects because AI can take care of a lot of overhead.

10/ Vinext is a week old. 94% Next.js 16 API coverage. And they’re already running it on CIO.gov (a US government site, not a toy project).

Not ready for your most critical prod apps, but probably ready to experiment with.
