Currently a in-house Junior Designer at Bourne Leisure on the Haven/Caravan Sales team working mainly on the day to day promotional material ranging from adverts, DM’s, brochures to emails. Within 4 months of being at Bourne I was promoted to managing one of the brands, Owner Services, which meant managing my own time and working closely with the marketing team. Other great experiences have been being heavily involved in a number of creative campaigns including the Haven 2014 creatives and having the opportunity develop skills as a digital designer through designing info panes, landing pages, banners, animated giffs and having email coding training. Working along experienced senior designers has not only developed my knowledge and skills within design but it has also increased my confidence.

Skills learnt:
• Communications and Media – knowledge of media production, communication, dissemination techniques and methods
• Design - knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in producing creative and compelling promotional material including strong skills in layout, colour and typography
• Knowledge of print and online production principles – including working knowledge of html/css
• Sales and Marketing – proven experience working with and serving the needs of the sales and marketing department including knowledge of the marketing campaign process and sales cycles
• Design and Web Software – experience using Adobe Creative Suite 
• Communications – strong written and verbal skills, great interpersonal skills
• Time Management – ability to balance needs of clients, manage to prioritise and set appropriate expectations, ability to work within tight deadlines with a strong focused attitude
• Self-starter - ability to operate with minimal management oversight
• Image selection – including resizing, formatting and image retouching
• Getting artwork ready for print 
• Working within brand guidelines 
• Understanding the entire design process

When the internet serves you a gem…

Discovered Seoul Tonic a few weeks back and I’m obsessed.

Quick debrief: it’s an Australian drinks brand inspired by Korean rituals.
Designed for the pre-pre drinks or after so you can still enjoy a night out without wasting the next day. 
Because prevention is better than cure.

But what makes it interesting isn’t just what’s in the pouch (although I bet it’s delicious) 

Here’s what I’m loving about this brand:

The messaging 
“Drink before drinking.” 
Knows who it's for. No fluff, witty & relatable (speaking from experience that hangovers hit differently after 30).

The pouch
Such a simple way to stand out. They could have gone down the can format but a pouch makes the brand recognisable.
The brand, packaging & photography is a whole vibe too.

Brand merch
Because are you even a brand if you don’t sell cool t-shirts and hats?!

The brand world
More than just product shots on the insta feed.
It takes you on a journey of South Korea. From campaign product shots inspired by the streets of Korea, Seoul City Guides.

That’s the power of creating brand worlds, they go beyond just the product and make you want to be part of it.

One to watch and follow along 👀

Step aside Netflix, I’ve got something better for you all.

So my new favourite thing to do is watch Founder’s docu-series.

Because let’s face it, we’re all a bit nosey and love a sneak peek at BTS. 
But in all honesty, it’s pretty inspiring to see what founders are building. 
I’ve actually learnt so much and feel invested in the journey.

For all product founders out there, whether seasoned, new, or aspiring, there has never been so much value and knowledge to learn from those who are further ahead.

I often get asked why I moved to Bali
(yes, I’m that annoying person who doesn’t shut up about it 😉).

Truth is, it was a whim decision.

In the same way I quit my job back in 2016 to travel, I then started freelancing (much to my dad’s WTF are you doing?). Bored of the 9-5 and in search of freedom and a better way of living life.

I often hear the same similarities with most founders.

They see things a little differently. 
Maybe it’s spotting the gap in the market or flipping the whole thing on its head.

The point is, we’re not all meant to be the same.
There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all. 
Whether that’s how you build your business or pay the bills.

Anyway, if you’re in the depths of building something new and struggling to finesse the right look for your brand, give me a shout. 

P.S. It’s not all suntans and beaches - here’s to battling driving a moped in tropical rain (it’s not fun friends).

Does anyone else just love the colour green?

Spot the difference…

That was my exact thought when I was aimlessly wandering around the supermarket last week.

And no, I’d never heard of a Soju drink before but turns out the Korean alcoholic drink is quite the hit in Korean culture (so the internet says, so must be true) 

Anyway, it’s not a trick question. 

At first, I thought all of these belonged to the same brand because all I’m seeing is a sea of green bottles, white labels and a small fruit illustration.

When you’ve only got a few seconds to grab customers in retail, looking like everybody else is your ticket to disappearing. 

Here’s my two cents of ideas if I were going to launch a Soju drink:
Change the bottle colour 
Look at a new format 
Step away from the white label 

Sometimes, following the category cues makes sense. 
But when you’re fighting for attention in a crowded space. 
Breaking the rules is a good way to stand out.

Anyone tried it?

One of the biggest mistakes I see?
Founders jumping straight into the design process.

I get it. It’s the fun part. I love it too.
But if we don’t know the lay of the land, we’re going in blind.

Even if it’s just considering a few things like:
Where are you planning on selling? DTC or retail? 
These are two different ball games.
Who else is in the market?
Who are we speaking to? 
How can we use design to stand out? 
  
Yes, aesthetics are important, but it’s not enough.
These insights drive the design. 
Meaning less guessing, costly surprises down the line and a stronger shot of standing out.

Launching a product will always come with risks.
But wouldn’t you rather go from “let’s hope it works” to “I feel confident this will stand out”?

Sometimes it’s about sweating the small stuff and digging a little deeper.

Just a little personal win

Went back to my local run club this morning. 

Feels soooo good to run with friends again after the longest ever run-comeback.

Injury’s suck and can feel very isolating, grateful for the social fix/new inspo finds early doors.
