Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City - SSMC

• Completed a 4-week external clinical elective in the division of Cardiology at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) - Abu Dhabi.

• I was given the chance to participate in morning ward & Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) rounds, visit the electrophysiology (EP) & outpatient clinics, gather patient histories, perform clinical examinations, presented the cases (3-4 per day) followed by discussing proper investigation and treatment plans for different medical conditions which included & not limited to atrial fibrillation, arrhythmias, acute coronary syndromes, hypertension, heart failure, and cardiomyopathies.

• I also had the honor of visiting the catheterization lab, where I got to watch different percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) and coronary angiographies in action. 

• I was able to witness several procedures taking place such as Stress Echocardiography, Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE), Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), Electrocardiogram (ECG) lead placements, as well as HOLTER monitor lead placements.

• Sincere gratitude is extended to Drs. Syed Khurram Mushtaq Gardezi and Seema El Khider Nour for their unwavering support and direction.

Clinical Elective, Cardiology Division

Sheikh Khalifa Medical City

• Completed an external clinical elective program of 4-week duration in the Gastroenterology division at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi.

 • I had the chance to attend both out-patient & in-patient consultations, take history, perform abdominal examination, present the cases (2-3 per day) seen during the consults which included but not limited to peptic ulcer diseases, colon polyps & cancers (diagnostic + screening), follow up bariatric surgery patients, inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBS-C & IBS-D), Inflammatory bowel diseases, GERD and eosinophilic esophagitis, then discussing different management approaches whilst reviewing the patient files under the guided supervision of both consultant gastroenterologists Dr. Mohamad Said Nouh & Dr. Ashref Tawil. 

• Attended several both upper & lower GI endoscopies under the supervision of different consultant gastroenterologists, especially with Dr. Inas Mikhail.

Clinical Elective, Gastroenterology Divison

A recent RAKMHSU medical graduate, planning to pursue a career in general internal medicine, with the goal of undertaking a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology. Throughout my academic journey, I have demonstrated exceptional theoretical knowledge, creativity, and leadership skills, and have actively participated in various research projects focused on gastroenterology, hepatology, and general internal medicine which I believe will aid in my success as future internist. I am committed to further honing my skills through hands-on experience under the guidance of senior professionals in the specialty and actively seeking further research opportunities in this field.
