At this point I don’t really care who or what is doing the writing. 

If AI generated content is your jam, at least train your machine brain of choice to produce something other than exhaust fumes.

Turns out rage bait is NOT a winning strategy. 

Months ago, I wrote about why American Eagle Outfitters Inc.’s Sydney Sweeney campaign was a poor brand decision that would negatively the company by alienating their core customer demographic and destroying the credibility of their decade-long positioning rooted in inclusivity. 

Finally, The Business of Fashion has come through with some real proof. I still cannot believe that they, along with numerous other outlets, let AEO spin those bizarre claims in September that the campaign was successful based on clearly dubious “new customer” and “earned media” numbers. 

In fact, a closer look at their Q2 earnings report (a quarter ending just a few days after the Sweeney campaign) indicated declining AE sales, and external data showed declining retail foot traffic. This new brand sentiment data confirms that the campaign had a negative effect on brand perception. Should be interesting to see what Q3 looks like…

For the holidays this year I’m doing the absolute least. In fact, my family and I already started on that path. Over Thanksgiving we decided to unsubscribe from the chaos and too-muchness of it all. We chose the path of least resistance. That meant no marathon cooking sessions. No complicated menu planning. Regular, everyday crockery, cutlery, and china. No seating charts, extra tables, trundle beds, and hotel bookings. 

No expectations. No pressure. No stress. 
No arguments. No weirdness. Nobody playing devil’s advocate.

The weekend drifted by in a blissful spirit of joy, peace, and deliberate uselessness.

It was divine.

Now that Christmas and the holiday season are coming up, my goal is for the vibe to be exactly the same. Ease only. Softness only. Less is more. 

I am choosing the path of least resistance. 

Not because I am avoiding life, but because I am embracing the version of life that blesses me with love. The version of life that lets me be. The  version of life that lets me breathe. 

Hallelujah.

I’m already looking forward to it.
