As an 11-year-old, I loved Saturday when I would buy specially ordered kulfi (a frozen dairy dessert) with my weekly allowance of INR 5, until one day, to my unpleasant surprise, its price went up and I couldn’t afford it anymore. This was when my father introduced me to inflation, and it began a weekly ritual, where he would use relatable analogies to tell me about his work as a central banker. The term liquidity conjured up images of Uncle Scrooge’s pile of gold coins, and Quidditch from Harry Potter represented Risk vs Return. My fascination for mathematics and physics led me to achieve my Bachelor of Technology degree in Electronics and Telecommunication. However, my childhood love for finance instigated me to pursue my first job as a financial analyst at TresVista Financial Services where I gained proficiency in the basics of GAAP Accounting, financial valuation through Discounted Cash Flow Analysis, comparable analysis and financial modeling. Desirous of learning more about risk, I joined Ernst & Young as a Risk Analyst in Banking, where I performed concurrent audit across the gamut of treasury operations. This helped me gain an understanding of the foreign exchange and derivatives market, and treasury functions of asset-liability management and capital adequacy, from both an operational and regulatory perspective. My short-term career goal is to work in the field of financial risk valuation, where flexible risk capabilities and robust risk infrastructure is the need of the hour, amidst the growing regulatory expectations. In moving towards this objective I recently graduated with my Masters in Finance specializing in asset management, which has helped hone my skills in valuation, financial statistics and risk management. Additionally, I have gained proficiency in financial theories and concepts as well as complex financial products and pricing techniques through numerical and computational methods.
