Accountable to oversee 8 programs and 15 employees to include program leads and staff a combination of state and federal employees, contractors, temporary technicians, military technicians, civilians, and assigned weekend guardsmen. Planned, organized, and directed the activities of assigned education resources and programs and employment service areas, ensuring that legal and regulatory requirements were met. Areas included: Ohio National Guard Scholarship Program (ONGSP), Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA), Federal Credentialing Assistance (FCA) Veterans Affairs GI BILL Program, Statewide Testing, National Guard Employee Enhancement Program (NGEEP) and College Transcript Vetting. 

Built communication and marketing strategies designing, planning, updating, and scheduling briefings, trainings, and presentations catered to each audience. Created and launched the education teams’ channel and sent out a multitude of statewide distribution emails. Researched and helped develop strategies to further expand the yearly appropriated $20.1 million ONGSP into state level credentialing assistance. Wrote contract proposal for NGEEP’s renewal as the contract officer representative (COR) which was awarded for 2 years $900,000. 

On a daily basis consistently communicated and collaborated with colleges, soldiers, airman, vendors, commanders, unit representatives, and various stakeholders to include public affairs, officer strength, recruiting and retention command, human resources, contracting, incentives. Provided expertise, administrative oversight, and academic counseling to ensure soldier/airman were fully informed and taken care of via education services/programs and employment services. Assisted with budgeting, staffing needs, military transfer agreements, college purple star designation, research, and data analysis.

Part of advising team responsible for insuring Columbus area high school students have access and the ability to attain college credit while still in high school. Responsible for all eligible students and their application, testing, and enrollment.

Met with students, parents, counselors, teachers, staff and principals. Suggested pathways, classes, majors, degrees. Monitoring of students progress within classes and on applications and testing and did necessary follow ups. Following up with professors about students progress and providing the necessary resources to the students with academic issues via phone calls, emails, and in person advising. Processed students from inputting consent forms, to application walk thru, to proctoring test, to enrolling/registering students for classes.

 Advised students on courses to take, majors, careers, transferring, degree pathways. Ensured standard of expectation for success was put into a catered plan of action for each student. Presented various levels of funding thru various resources including financial aid, scholarships, and the Pell Grant. 

Proctored testing. Fostered relationships with stakeholders, on scholarship committee to include researching students following up with them to inform them of application and potential award. Planned and developed tools, training materials and conducted program training. Assisted with special projects in grants management, event planning, and developing of presentations.

>Monitored students’ progress  and conduct any necessary follow ups, to include following up with professors about students progress and providing needed, targeted resources to students to promote their success in the program.

Academic Learning Specialist

Accountable for all 30 school Teachers and support staff, scheduled Substitute Teachers, reviewing and approving requested time off. Devised professional development curriculum and led ongoing training, conducting all administrative meetings. Managed quarterly staff award program, presenting awards to recipients on quarterly basis.

> Reduced student behavior issues by 10% and student suspensions by 20% during tenure – for institution with 530 students – after developing and implementing new system supported by 30 personally supervised staff and teachers.

> Researched, reviewed, selected and implemented new instructional resources, after using data and open discussions to identify general needs of institution, as well as specific needs of Teachers and classrooms.

>  Conducted or participated in staff performance evaluations, completing disciplinary write-ups, formulating and monitoring job improvement plans and replacing staff. Helped recruit new staff, scheduling interviews, developing candidate questions, recommending hire/no hire actions and following up with candidates.

>  Administered school transportation system, addressing Bus Driver issues, coordinating logistics in event of late bus arrivals or “no shows,” supervising arrival and departure of students (to and from school site) and addressing student behavior during these times. Also served as administrator who oversaw school recesses and lunches. 

>  Planned, led and spoke at numerous school events – such as open houses and movie nights – coordinating set-up and take-down before and after each event. Introduced self to parents, conducting walk-throughs to introduce parents/students to Teachers and handing out information to new student/parent prospects.

Helped oversee Upward Bound Program – funded by $220,000 annual grant – managing 10 Instructors, five Tutor Counselors, four Tutors and one Office Associate responsible for supporting numerous high school students attending 15 different Columbus-based educational institutions. Accumulated and reviewed student data, leveraging metrics to generate roster of qualified students, ultimately meeting and maintaining program quota of 60 students.

Conducted recruiting presentation for students and parents, following up to onboard student into program. Consistently researched upcoming events for students notifying and reminding participants of opportunities. Frequently scheduled campus visits for parents, participating in variety of new-hire search committees, scholarship selection committees, and conference committees. Dealt with wide array of student issues – for those struggling to stay in program – including student absences at mandatory events, absentee parents, sexual harassment, homelessness and other matters.

>  Engaged in numerous expense reduction activities, decreasing student leadership conference budget by 53.33% – or from $15,000 to $7000. Obtained numerous program sponsors – subsidizing costs of event tickets, meals and transportation as well as cover program supplies, collateral, t-shirts and awards.

>  Helped acquire more program funding, by writing initial small grant application – later rewriting and updating form – completing follow-up paperwork to help streamline overall process. 

>  Successfully chaired committees responsible for planning and organizing two state-wide student leadership conferences with 200 attendees each. Formulated conference budget, located and negotiated contract terms for event venue and catering, researched and proposed topics, recruited and hired speakers, and mobilized all volunteers. Created pamphlets, handouts and t-shirts, promoting event and maximizing attendance of participants.

Assistant Director of Learning & Development

Supervised 50 Peer Mentors – hired to work with 500 Mentees – as well as four Peer Mentor Leaders and student staff workers within university’s peer mentoring program. Worked with low-income, first generation students frequently assigned to remedial classes who were largely unprepared for college experience. 

Helped incoming freshman create academic schedules – making recommendations and advising on best classes to take each semester – updating program database with student major changes, class grades and other critical notations. Met with parents during orientations and college tours, implementing strategic assessment and reporting tools summarizing student progress, prescribing improvements and identifying and assessing program goal accomplishment.

>  More than doubled program size, increasing number of Mentors by 150% – or from 20 to 50 individuals – while expanding program reach from 200 to 500 students mentored (150% improvement).
>  Devised comprehensive peer mentor training manual – comprised of mission statement, program objectives, learning outcomes, Mentor-Mentee relationship expectations leading or facilitating Peer Mentor training sessions. Involved reviewing training manual, discussing purpose of peer mentoring program and duties of Mentors, as well as guidelines for success.

>  Planned and organized campus-wide events – including new student orientation, high school visits, Martin Luther King day, Hispanic heritage day, and black male summit. Spoke to all new students and parents about peer mentoring group, facilitating small groups in break-out rooms and helping in set up and take down of tables, chairs and other items

>  Created and mobilized recruitment database, recruiting Mentors and Mentees, reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, leading interview committees, assessing candidate qualifications and approving candidates. On-boarded new Mentors, reviewing progress and recommending best courses of action to deal with specific challenges
