My passion is how people describe what they experience visually and how those descriptions can be formalized into structured machine-interpretable data. I approach this work from an applied metadata science perspective using semantic technologies. At the intersection of embedded metadata, knowledge graphs, and data-centric AI, I provide services to help clients effectively structure and manage their digital assets, which improves the precision and accuracy of image information, increases the power of image search, and creates richer knowledge experiences. As a technologist, I saw that the best way to manage my images on the web was to do so with a metadata-centric platform using knowledge capturing and representation principles. I built ImageSnippets™ to support my image annotation research, and it has grown into a fully operational web application that empowers users to annotate and publish images on the web with industry standard structured linked-data. It also functions as an ontology engineering system with visual prompts for subject matter experts. Its pioneering approach uses a human-in-the-loop interface with AI-augmented image labeling to construct knowledge graphs and can be highly useful for training AI models in scene graph prediction. My research interests include knowledge representation, ontology engineering and the decentralized web. I am passionate about media integrity, valuing human content and data creators – whether they be artists, subject matter experts, or gig workers in the data economy.
