Placement 1-September 2014-November 2014- Risk Appetite and Policy Decisioning

Within this placement, I was responsible for supporting a senior manager with the preparation of the Material Integrated Risk Assessment (MIRA) for credit risk. From this experience, I enhanced my project management skills.

I also made a presentation to the Risk Appetite team about how concentrated RBS is in commercial real estate and residential mortgages compared to its peers. From this experience, I developed my ability to made effective decisions from a wide variety of sources.

Placement 2-Environmental, Social and Ethical Risk, December 2014-April 2014

In ESE Risk Advisory, I prepared ESE assessments for customers operating within high risk sectors.This required me to do thorough due diligence on the company and ensure that all the environmental risks were covered. 

Within the role, I was also responsible for ensuring that the information provided in the tracker was updated. This enabled me to develop my organisational skills.

I also worked with my team to develop an ESE training programme to front line staff within C&PB. 

From this experience I learnt how to deal with different stakeholders within the organisation. 

Placement 3- Risk Assurance- April 2015-present 

In Risk Assurance, I have developed my ability to understand Credit applications. This is shown as I have supported reviewers with preparing information for the reviews. I have further enhanced my credit skills.

I have also supported staff members with ensuring that all relevant information is available for their reviews. This includes various tests and the information for the reviewers.

I have also made presentations for staff for various Risk Assurance events. This shows my ability to make presentations for different stakeholders.

I have exceeded expectations and have co-written a Risk Assurance Report on Findings with a senior manager. From this experience, I have further developed my report writing skills.

I undertook an internship at Barclays where I was responsible for: updating the teams data base, recommending which companies the relationship directors should target for capital expenditure purposes and also wrote a credit paper for an EFW site. From this experience, I developed my ability to understand financial information and deal with different stakeholders at different levels of seniority. 

I also attended meetings with relationship directors and product teams about specific client prospects. From this experience, I further enhanced my networking skills. I was also part of developing an event for Barclays to further promote its new mobile app for corporates.

I also took part in a Dragons Den Challenge where I had to present an initiative to senior management for CSR purposes about how students can keep in touch with their mentors when they leave school. The organisation I collaborated with was called Think Forward which is part of the private equity foundation, which supports young people most at risk of being NEET by providing them with mentors. I learnt from this experience how to deal with different stakeholders and work in a team environment.

I was part of a team of 4 students who were responsible for fundraising for The Prince's Trust in the UK. I worked in the team and we undertook various fundraising tasks such as a cake sale on campus and also working with different people as well to raise funds. Our main event was selling samosas, onion bhajis and chocolate in the Pallasades shopping centre Birmingham. As part of my work, I learnt how to project manage and work in a team environment. Also, I learnt the importance of delegating responsibility all of which I can bring to my future career.
