I did some serious damage in my time at Metadata as the second full-time marketer.

After my first year, I created a new role to build the Metadata brand through product marketing, content, community, and events.

We created the Demand Gen U podcast with 50+ episodes, and 30,000+ downloads in 15 months, plus the annual DEMAND event with 11,000+ demand gen marketers registered in two years.

We launched the DEMAND Community for 1,600+ demand gen marketers to connect, learn, and level up their careers.

And we grew ARR from $2.5M to $15M with over 75% being Marketing-sourced.

The concept was solid: build a demo on your own, no sales call. But the onboarding had issues. Too many choices upfront, no clear path, and product jargon that only insiders would understand.

A year later, they fixed the big stuff:

1. First demo built for you
At launch, the team had to build it manually on calls. Now AI does it in-app.
They realized most first demos aren’t meant to go live. They’re used internally to get buy-in. So they gave people a solid draft to start from and killed the blank page problem.

2. Onboarding that adapts
They ask a simple question: “How do you plan to use Navattic?”
Early on, that just fed into tailored outreach. Now it pre-fills an AI prompt that builds your first demo around your actual use case.

3. Product terms explained in plain English
Stuff like web captures vs media captures confused new users. Now there’s a walkthrough that shows the difference and when to use each one.

Those changes pushed activation from 33% to 47% in a month.

Most products don’t need another feature. They just need to remove the friction that stops people from using what’s already there.
