🌍 Global Trends in Physical Inactivity: A Growing Public Health Challenge

A Lancet Global Health analysis pooled 507 population-based surveys from 5.7 million adults across 197 countries (2000–2022).

Key Findings
-> 1 in 3 adults worldwide are not active enough for good health.
-> Global inactivity rose from 23% in 2000 → 31% in 2022.
-> Rates are higher in women (34%) than in men (29%).
-> Inactivity is increasing in more than half of all countries, especially among adults 60+ years.

💡 Why it matters
Physical inactivity drives the burden of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and dementia.
These findings underscore that progress on exercise as prevention is stalling.
A small increase in daily movement can make a measurable difference, but systems-level action is needed.

Caveats: Estimates rely largely on self-reported data and model-based projections, with uneven country coverage and no causal inference.
