I have worked in Professional Services in the Technology sector for many years. For me, it is the most interesting place to work in tech. No two days are the same and you get to work with great people as you strive to solve client problems. It can also be a very challenging place to work. PS is often an underappreciated function in their own organisation. There are many diverse demands on PS that go well beyond the commitment to generate revenue through billable services. This requires PS Management to be strategic and innovative rather than purely operational. PS is a business within a business. It needs to align itself with the organisation's strategy and ensure that activity, in delivery, is supporting this. This is why I've always enjoyed working in PS. Finding ways to adapt and improve, whilst always keeping in mind the wellbeing of your team and the needs of your clients, is challenging but also exciting. You don't succeed in PS just by turning up, you always need to be looking at the impact you are making and how to improve. It is always about the people rather than the technology...and these are people include the PS function, those within the broader organisation and your partner community, and those in the client organisations you get to work with.
