No one wants to call the lawyer, EVER! I became a lawyer because I liked solving problems. Little did I know that the major problem I’d face for the first several years of my career would be not wanting to be a lawyer! The dislike of my chosen profession turned to gratitude as I began to encounter families suffering through life’s difficulties. I began to see that the real power occurs when legal knowledge and compassion are combined in a process designed to move families from the chaos of transition. What I didn’t like about being a lawyer in the 1990’s was that it felt out of touch with the realities families faced. I found lawyers to be more concerned with getting paid and protecting themselves than solving the client problem. It was all about “Sign this document” that the client didn’t understand. There was a very strong unspoken “protect the status quo” mandate in the industry. I had an awakening that took place over time. At some point I saw it all clearly: We’re here for a short time. Life is a gift. Most of life we can do without a lawyer – but when our Well Being is threatened, it’s a good idea to have a trusted advocate ensure that we face that difficulty in the best way possible. The lawyer’s purpose is to restore Well Being, create order in the midst of chaos, establish an environment of calm to allow you to safely reset yourself, and to provide clarity and guidance in life’s transitions. As a father, husband and community member who has spent 30 years helping families deal with life’s difficulties, I’m interested in reducing and avoiding suffering. As an entrepreneur I’m interested in creating a Well Being Firm that makes it easy for busy people to affordably install the guardrails that support us to safely travel life’s path. I have zero desire to create another cookie cutter law firm. The COVID-19 crisis has changed the world. Rather than fear, I feel called. I feel like I’ve been preparing for this moment for two decades. I’m grateful for the unrest I’ve felt with the status quo of the way law has been practiced. I’m grateful that in the face of the major crisis of my generation I’m able to be useful and contributing to helping families through it, instead of being stuck in overwhelm. As I tell my kids: Life is a gift. Sometimes the wrapping paper is glass chards and razor wire! But hang in there – you may have to you will have to work at it –dig deep and know that it’s a gift. Our firm is a Well Being Firm. We’re about helping families like yours face life’s difficulties so you can enjoy more of the gift of life we all share.
