I define Business Development a little bit differently than some. I view it as the opportunity to improve a business- this could be done through improving or exploring the culture of an organization, looking for joint ventures (to get the best of both worlds), creating a new service or product or it could be simply a new client/partner that adds revenue. This approach keeps me constantly curious so that the organization doesn't miss an opportunity just because it may not fit into my "job description". I'm constantly attending events, workshops, webinars to learn more of what is out there. Maybe it cannot help me or the company I'm with immediately but maybe I meet someone who it can and in turn that relationship is one that can have a positive impact on both our worlds. That is my approach- I'm like a Corporate MatchMaker - not for love but for improvement. Being in Management and Engagement for over 20 years I’ve seen a lot of trends. Often having what some feel are difficult conversations, because I invested my energy and time and nurtured those relationships, those conversations become just that- conversations. The ability to hear people where they are at and use "relatability" is a power that I have. It has also come in very powerfully when "rallying" teams or accomplishing challenging goals.
