After spending almost 20 years as a writer/creative director at advertising agencies and on my own—including over ten years as Chief Creative Officer at Proof, Dominion's agency of record for more than eight of those years—I decided to bring that experience in-house at Dominion Energy.

Even as I created long-running, award-winning, and efficacious advertising campaigns for them, it was clear to me that Dominion was a different kind of energy company—one consistently striving to do the right things, in the right ways, to ensure the reliable and safe delivery of electricity. To have the opportunity to play a strong role in helping (what's now) Dominion Energy become one of the cleanest and most forward-looking energy companies in America was one I could not pass up.

So now my clients have become my colleagues, and my challenge has become even more personal. With operations in 20 states, Dominion Energy is no longer a regional energy company. We're a leader when it comes to clean and renewable energy, and the progress we make together will keep our planet safer and the power flowing to the people, organizations, and companies that will continue to do remarkable things.

As a Creative Consultant at NJI Media, I had the opportunity to work with an incredibly talented and passionate group of colleagues to continue building a multi-faceted creative and paid media department. This department both stands alone and complements the world-class front- and back-end web development and design group already there, as well as working in concert with the PR, government relations and content creation companies that round out the LLC. With a remarkably broad array of clients, the work NJI Media does is both inspiring and genuine.

Created, produced, sold, built and managed teams in service of, and shepherded award-winning and efficacious work for, clients including Intel, Discover, Ford Motor Company, Microsoft, American Gas Association, Oakley, Qualcomm, Susan G. Komen, Shell, Verizon, The Brem Foundation, Dominion, Noble Energy and ZeroWater. Led a multi-office creative department of 25+ people to do arresting, memorable work, and remember that we do it for our clients, not for ourselves. Stood at the intersection of the stuff we made and the company we ran, and recognized that the most important way we grow our business is by helping our clients grow theirs. If you have to go to work every day, this isn't a bad way to do it at all.

While leading the creative group at Proof Integrated Communications/Burson-Marsteller, our team won a number of industry awards. These included a clean sweep of the Pollies for Fix The Debt in 2013 (Best Internet Advertising Campaign, Best State/Local Advertising Campaign, Best Use of Humor in Online Advertising, Best Online Advertising for Advocacy/Grassroots and Best Use of Pandora); three SABRE Awards for Discover in 2013 (Creativity Award, Issues Management Category Award and Certificate of Excellence for a Public Service); a Telly in 2011 for Comcast (Political Issues/Campaign Advertising) a SABRE Award for AIG in 2012 (Viral Video); multiple Tellys for Dominion creative in 2009, 2010, 2011 (2), 2012 (2), 2013 and 2014 (2015 pending); and in 2014, our healthcare work for Your Health Idaho was a SABRE finalist.

One of three partners who established and grew what became a $6M creative communications agency nested inside a world-renowned research and polling firm. Then merged PSBcreative with Marsteller, the advertising agency component of Burson-Marsteller; result has been a revenue-generating, award-winning creative group with roots in both research/polling and public relations. On its own, PSBcreative was truly full-service; and clients included (but were not limited to) the Ford Motor Company, Intel, Microsoft, FPL Group, TXU, Dominion Virginia Power and a number of political campaigns from the U.S. to the Ukraine.

While working at PSBcreative/Penn, Schoen & Berland, we won a number of creative and industry awards for the work we did for Dominion; and in addition, we won the Questar Gold Award for our television PSA for the Coalition to Prevent DVT.

Caffeine Creative

An independent creative and media services firm, Caffeine Creative specialized in producing communications for non-profits, candidates and political organizations. In 2005-2006, Caffeine Creative wrote, filmed and produced the documentary, "A Blinding Flash of the Obvious," which won Best of Show at the Breckenridge Film Festival (as well as making a client very, very happy).

Wrote advertising and other creative communications for corporations, organizations, non-profits and political candidates. Clients included the National Air Traffic Controllers, the United States Telecom Association, the Children's Defense Fund and the Motion Picture Association of America. Produced television, print, radio and digital projects, collaborating with colleagues in both the business and political worlds.

Senior Copywriter

Creative, collaborative and business-savvy creative director, film director and copywriter who is as comfortable with spreadsheets and staffing challenges as with storyboards and creative concepts. I have created and produced an unusually broad-based body of work across a very wide range of clients, categories and media; and I also have deep experience running the business of our business. I’ve managed creative teams comprised of dozens across multiple cities and run my own company; I’ve merged a four-year old shop with a long-standing creative agency to form a $20M+ communications company that continues to grow, win awards and earn the trust of a vast array of clients. I believe that forging creatively memorable, strategically focused content is what excellent and successful agencies have been doing for decades; it’s the delivery systems that have and continue to evolve. And I believe that our job is to think and execute creatively in ways that will help our clients’ achieve their goals.
