Leading a Centre of Excellence within Ericsson for the Verification of compression products and the development of broadcast control solutions.

The role also involved being part of the business units leadership team, contributing to the future direction of the BU.
Key projects and initiatives:
Forming joint development teams with other overseas development units. Delivering Agile process improvements, promoting team work and reporting on progress at the Leadership Team Meetings. With the overall effect of improving deliveries of our broadcast control solution product.

Continuing the drive to an improved Agile Development process, by initiating a process to embedded verification engineers. The project involved all aspects of cultural, technical and process issues to overcome. With an end benefit of improving throughput and a greater push of test to the left. Which in turn saw an improvement of quality in new features.

Head of COE Control and WorkFlow

Responsible for a team of 50 verification engineers, working as a manager of managers. The work Included leading automation development and QA Management. Involved in running the groups budget, test architecture, Continuous integration Test, Automation Framework, Test reporting and test case structure. 
Introduced in tools and methods to enable Agile testing in the embedded SW environment.
Experience in working with IBM Rational Toolsets.

Whilst working in this role, I was involved in a number of key initiatives:

Redefining Test Phases - Involved reviewing test plans and working with other key stakeholders, to find inventive ways to run our product and system test teams in parallel. This resulted in substantial savings in time to market  for our new feature releases.

Setting up a new Automation Development Group - Part of our drive to embrace Agile Development and Testing. Involved in recruiting all team members, working with key stakeholders to chose a direction for the automation framework, methods to plan and communicate progress and training/coaching/mentoring to improve take up of the new automation tools. The end benefit was improved test coverage and time to market for our new products.

Construction of a new Test Lab - A great opportunity to consolidate our labs into one new test environment. The project involved working with all the project stakeholders, assisting in designing a new master control room and working with the teams to help transition to the new lab. The project resulted in a massive improvement in working conditions for the test engineers and improved test project through-put.

Director of Quality

Responsible for development teams producing Digital Broadcast receivers, Multiplexers, QAMs and control solutions. Group size was 80, including SW, HS, VHDL design engineers and project management.

Part of the team that helped standardise a single development process and then role it out across the development groups. This helped improve our end product quality to the customer.

Lead the introduction of our new receiver product into a number of key customers. Helped derive project plans and tactics to obtain key customer feedback for the development teams. Which resulted in product improvements in future releases.

Project Managing Bespoke HW, running VHDL and embedded SW projects. Used within the digital broadcast industry.
Involved in a new initiative to setup and run a development project office. Involved recruiting development project managers and establishing new processes for development projects.

Responsible for a small team of highly skilled system integration engineers. Including 3rd line support for digital broadcast systems and System verification, working with development.

Project Managing the global delivery of DTH Digital Broadcast Systems, up to the value of £5mil. Worked on the delivery of many projects including BSkyB, JSky, BT, Reuters, CBC and UK DTTV.
Managed a small project team of five project engineers.

Responsible for deploying and servicing digital broadcast systems. Specialising in installing compression encoding, multiplexing and control systems.

Worked in the Body Systems Development area. Working on harness and ECU design, including CAD and FMEA. Part of the graduate training scheme.

24 years experience in the broadcast industry. Working in a variety roles as a project engineer, project manager, development manager, test manager and quality manager. This variety has given me a great understanding of complete E2E process flow, problem solving and how to make sure the customer is always put first.
