The Hourglass Project (powered by Vodacom)

The Hourglass, is a design piece and "catalyst for change" that encourages and tracks participation in corporate employee volunteerism programmes (EVP's)

On international and national days the design piece is illuminated in the respective colours sending a reminder throughout the organisation to contribute and volunteer. Once an employee has completed their volunteering hours they can activate the hourglass to record their time spent. Analytics and tracking of EVP's is done on the hourglass platform.

In the Nelson Mandela Exhibition at the Apartheid Museum there is a special hourglass with a 3D Printed bust of Nelson Mandela that on Mandela Day and other national days sends a signal to the network of hourglasses to synchronously activate for a unified 67 minute South African celebration. 

The Hourglass Project is powered by Vodacom and has received the written support from the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Apartheid Museum, D-Shape, World Design Organisation and SAB Design Institute.

Hello Baby is a baby-tech startup company well known for their ultrasound 3D printing product – Hello Baby 3D Prints.

Hello Baby is the first company in Africa to develop the algorithm to convert 4D Ultrasounds into 3D Prints and the founders have been featured on Maggs on Media (eNCA) and Modern Mommy.

Hello Baby is collaborating with Pampers at the MamaMagic Expo's and being piloted at the Fetal Assessment Centre at Kingsbury Hospital.

3D Power

3D Power is driving the emergence and adoption of 3D printing technology in South Africa through the distribution of printers and accredited training.

3D Power has secured the South African distribution rights to the leading consumer 3D printing manufacturer Flashforge, and is working together with Sparrow Schools to design the first SETA Accredited skills development course for 3D printing driven product development.

An NPO, 3D4Youth has been set up to measure the impact of 3D printing in education to advocate for corporate responsibility departments to introduce 3D printing to schools. The impact has been globally measured and proven but needs to be measured in South Africa for corporate responsibility departments to make decisions. Trialogue is advising in this regard.
