Last week, I said goodbye to this car.

This little Honda CR-Z has been with me for twelve years. Small, nimble, fast when I needed it to be. It hardly gave me problems except for the usual signs of aging. And being a hybrid, it was kind to my wallet too.

It carried me through some of the lowest points of my life.
Business failures. Relationship struggles. Seasons of uncertainty.

But it also saw me through some of the high points.
Long conversations with my son.
New discoveries with life partners.
Deep exchanges with thinkers, leaders, and friends as I ferried them around.

And honestly, if you ask me what makes a good car, I’d say it’s one that’s fully paid off. 🤣

So if it was reliable, fuel-efficient, and low-maintenance… 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘨𝘰? 

𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘣𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘰?

If I’m being honest, that good financial practice also made me complacent. For years, the lack of financial pressure let me justify staying comfortable.

No urgency to upgrade. No reason to stretch. No push to level up.

But sometimes, we need that little nudge.

Or shove.

Or kick. 

Something that forces us out of familiar patterns and into possibilities we wouldn’t consider otherwise.

I’m not taking on debt for the sake of it. But a bit of weight on the shoulder can be a surprisingly good motivator, especially on the days when giving up feels easier than growing.

Twelve years is a long time to hold on to something that once defined who you were. Maybe it’s time to see who I can become in the next twelve.

After all, if we don’t loosen our grip on the past, how are we supposed to reach for the future?

This assignment caused me sleepless night!

(But to be honest, the stress for mostly self-inflicted 😅)

While I've got the chance to train participants with master degrees in data science in the past, this was a different kind of challenge.

Academic smarts is one thing, but when you have a company filled with AI practitioners, the pressure was high!

(Street smarts, to me at least, is scarier!)

Xsolla's teams were very exposed to the world of AI, and of course, they are very aware of the promises of AI too. And when we first did our AI Readiness Survey, I knew it immediately it as a tough crowd.

But thanks to the support of Nur Shafieda and Maureen Winningham, M.B.A./C.P.T.D., we managed to pull through.

And the participants had fun learning how to use AI in a more structured manner. The frameworks were useful to give them the biggest picture, because we believe the best approach to capitalize the powers of AI is 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲-𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰, 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹-𝗔𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰.

Instead of what the tools can do for you, sometimes it's better to ask what tools are best to achieve your desired outcomes.

👏🏻 Kudos as well to the team as they were the most socially-conscious group we ever had, and the discussions we had on the pros and cons of AI were extremely eye-opening, even for me. 

Yes, we are all excited with the potential of AI, but that doesn't mean we close an eye to the perils of AI. It's this kind of grounded awareness we all need among the new generation of leaders, and I'm glad to have found the catalysts.

Looking forward to the next cohort later this month, and who knows, we might go even further together in 2026!

I keep thinking about this.

A single generation.

A massive jump.

Yet I still meet leaders, managers and employees who tell me the same thing.

“𝘞𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘈𝘐 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦.”

“𝘞𝘦’𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘳.”

But this is the lesson hiding in plain sight.

If AI can jump from 27 to 58 in one cycle (about 2.5 years gap), waiting for a “perfect moment” is the fastest way to fall behind.

𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀.

And here is the part most people forget.

You do not need an AI model that is 100% ready.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗜’𝘀 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.

Ready enough to experiment.

Ready enough to improve.

Ready enough to build muscle before the next jump arrives.

Because if the technology is accelerating and humans are standing still, the gap only widens.

I see this every week in workshops.

The companies that win are not the ones with the best tools.

𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵.

Progression beats perfection.

Always.

So let’s think about this today as...

Why the 97.5% Failure Rate Didn’t Surprise Me

When I first saw that AI could only automate 2.5% of paid work, I wasn’t shocked.

If anything, I felt relieved.

Because it confirmed what I’ve seen over and over in my sessions with teams:
Everyone rushed into AI hoping it would 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 work, when the real opportunity was always to 𝙧𝙚𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚 it.

I’ve watched leaders get frustrated when AI couldn’t “do the whole thing.”

But that’s never been the point.

The point is to use AI to 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘱𝘦𝘳, and 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴.

And when you stop expecting AI to act like a replacement, it suddenly becomes a reinforcement.

That 2.5% figure doesn’t show how little AI can do.

It shows how much room we still have to build better systems, smarter teams, and more human work.

One day, and that one day might come sooner than you think, AI will be able to handle 10% of the task.

That’s like an hour from your work day.

Think about what you can do with that time you just “earned” back through AI!

To me, that’s the real upgrade that AI offers.

Everyone wants the promise of tomorrow.

Yet they try to hold it with the same hand that’s still wrapped around yesterday.

Cisco’s latest AI Readiness Index shows how deep this tension runs.

Organisations are racing into the AI era, but their systems, workflows, and assumptions are still stuck in an earlier chapter.

Here are the three insights that matter most.

1️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟯 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁
Only 13 percent of companies are truly AI ready.

Cisco calls them the 𝙋𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨. They’re not ahead because they bought better tools. They’re ahead because they treat readiness as a discipline. They renew their infrastructure, modernise workflows, and clean up their data long before scaling AI.

Everyone else is trying to build tomorrow on foundations built for yesterday.

2️⃣ 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲
83 percent of organisations plan to deploy AI agents, yet only 34 percent believe their infrastructure can support the workloads required.

The ambition is high. The architecture is not. That gap shows up as stalled pilots, slow adoption, and teams struggling under the weight of outdated systems.

If the organisation still moves like last year, it will never think like next year.

3️⃣ 𝗔𝗜 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝘁 𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀
Cisco gives this a name: AI Infrastructure Debt. The slow accumulation of outdated systems, fragmented data, delayed upgrades, and underfunded architectures.

It doesn’t break loudly. It builds quietly. And eventually, it slows everything. Innovation. Scaling. Productivity. ROI.

This is the cost of gripping the past while reaching for the future.


These are just a few insights I pulled from the report (link in the comments), but if there’s one trait that stood out, it’s “𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙬𝙖𝙡”.

Renewal is the ability to update your systems, beliefs, and ways of working at the pace the world is changing.

It’s the skill that separates companies who talk about AI from companies who benefit from it.

And it applies to us as individuals too.

Because if we’re honest, many of us still carry workplace beliefs that simply don’t fit the world we’re heading into.

As we enter the final month of 2025, maybe it’s time to reflect on how we can be our own kind of pacesetter in the age of AI.

AI enablement is often less about the tech and more about the weight we carry from the past.

Old systems.

Old workflows.

Old beliefs about how work “should” be done.

They hold more power over AI adoption than most leaders realise.

Teams cling to what’s familiar because it feels safe. They keep legacy processes running because of the it’s-not-broken-so-why-fix-it mentality. They resist new ways of working because the old ways still fit their hands, even if they no longer fit the world.

But there’s another trap on the opposite end.

Some companies swing too hard.

New tools every quarter.

New structures with no real purpose.

Change for the sake of change.

One step forward, two steps back.

The result is the same.

AI doesn’t stick.

People don’t grow.

And the organisation keeps spinning in place.

Renewal sits in the middle.

Not clinging to the past.

Not chasing chaos for novelty’s sake.

But consciously updating the systems, beliefs and behaviours that no longer serve the season ahead.

Act as a thoughtful organisational coach. Guide me through a structured reflection to help me identify which old systems, beliefs or processes in my work or organisation may be holding me back in the age of AI. Ask me one question at a time, starting with any that can give you a better context of what we do.
Help me explore what no longer fits, what needs to be renewed, and what opportunities might open up if I realigned for the next season of work.
Organise the conversation so each step builds on the previous one, and keep your guidance practical, clear and honest. At the end of our interaction, I’ll looking for something that we can work on in the next 1 month, 1 quarter and 1 year.

AI… is like a mirror. 🪞

It reflects how we work, how we think, and how clearly we can define what matters.

At at the same time, AI is also like a magnifying glass. 🔍

It amplifies your capabilities, our potential, and sadly, our limitations too.

If we design systems with clarity, AI amplifies that clarity. If we build around chaos, it amplifies the chaos.

That’s why the 2.5% automation success rate in the Scale AI's Remote Labor Index doesn’t discourage me.

It simply reveals where our organizations still depend on human judgment, collaboration, and creativity — and where we can still improve our systems.

You’ve probably heard me talk about the AI revolution last week, and just like the internet, mobile and social media revolution that preceded it, AI will highlight the cracks, spotlight the gaps, and while at the start it may look disheartening, in time, under the right light, the potential will be illuminating.

Because I work with coaches quite a bit, I realize that the truly great ones are like mirrors too, allowing us to see ourselves better.

If you already have a coach, talk to him or her about how you can “flow” better in this AI world.

But if you don’t, take out your favourite general purpose AI tool, like a ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and Claude, and insert this prompt:

Act as an experienced life and performance coach who has 20-years experience helpign clients understand human behaviour, clarity, and goal setting. Help me reflect on how AI could amplify my strengths and reveal my blind spots at work or in life. Ask thoughtful, reflective questions — not to fix me, but to help me see myself more clearly. Present your reflections as short paragraphs or probing questions (not bullet points), and end by suggesting one next step or mindset shift I can explore this weekend to grow in this AI-shaped world. Also, giving me recommendations in metaphors would help too. I’ve been exploring AI’s role in my work and want to use this exercise to understand how I can adapt and evolve with it.

ChatGPT 5.1 launched last week and the internet did what it always does.

Speculation. Excitement. Strong opinions.

Some say it feels sharper.

Some say it feels more “human.”

And the same question appears again:

𝘼𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝘼𝙂𝙄?

This is where things get messy, because most people use the word without a clear definition.

Here is the simple version.

Imagine an AI with the equivalent of IQ 120 across all subjects.

Not just coding. Not just language. Everything.

Then add the ability to learn and adapt like a capable human.

That is AGI in plain English.

𝘚𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘎𝘗𝘛 5.1 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘶𝘴?

It is smarter, more natural and better at reasoning.

But feeling closer to AGI is not the same as being closer.

We need a proper way to measure this.

Which reminded me of a research paper from a few weeks ago on 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗚𝗜.

For the first time, researchers created something close to an IQ test for AI.

A full spectrum benchmark covering ten cognitive domains: reasoning, perception, memory, creativity, planning and more.

When tested, GPT-4 scored 27%. GPT-5 scored 58%.

You can't really say it's half human. Half generalist, maybe.

This is the first real progress bar for AGI.

𝘚𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘎𝘗𝘛 5.1 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥?

We do not have an official score yet, but early signals show steady progress.

A step forward, not a leap.

𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦, 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵?

After all, it’s just a number, right?

What’s more important is what we can expect from AI today - what it can do for us, and what it can’t.

And if you look at the currently irreplaceable skills of AI - judgement, context, empathy, creativity, strategic thinking - those are the same foundational soft skills we know.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦? How do we apply it in the age of AI.
