🏳️‍🌈 Pride month is a funny one... In years past we’ve complained about brands jumping on pride as a trend - the rainbow logos, the vague solidarity posts, and the performative allyship that vanishes on July 1st. But this year feels different. I've seen far fewer brands engage with Pride (so far) this year - both on social media and just walking down the high street. You want to think it's because they're listening to feedback... But part of me can't help but feel it's a reflection of the shifting attitudes in the UK. We're now ranked 22nd for LGBTQ+ rights in Europe - an area we used to lead in. Now we're not even in the top 10. That, combined with the growing hostility toward the community, particularly Trans and Non-binary folk, makes it feel like we're regressing. So it raises the question: are brands pulling back because they’re listening, or because they’re afraid? It’s important to remember that Pride started as a protest.
