Hiring the right person is only half of the equation.
 Onboarding them the right way is the other half.

Yesterday we welcomed our new marketer, Antonella Andrade, to the magier team - and I couldn't be more excited.

Having someone new join is always a magical moment - and as the founder, it’s my responsibility to make sure she’s quickly up to speed.

Don't let anyone tell you how to build your company.

I've seen so many great startups fail because the founder lost their spark.

We tell founders to work hard. Delay everything. Put the business first...

They must put every dollar and second of theirs into the business for more growth.

I had the same limiting belief: "Ah. We just need to hit this one goal and then everything will solve itself."

Turns out this never happened.

And then my view changed: "What if I create a setup instead that I can sustain *indefinitely*?"

The goal isn't to burn bright and crash.

It's to keep showing up.

In the last two years, I've built a multi seven-figure company without having an office.

This was my first remote venture, as all my previous businesses were in-person.

The decision to go remote was obvious for me:

→ Access to global talent
→ Flexibility to work from anywhere
→ Low starting costs as magier is bootstrapped

Today, we are 33 people spread across 17 countries, and I feel we have the strongest company culture I've ever created as a founder.

Here's what I learned about being remote-first (and how we make it work):

→ Hire the right people (skill + core values) → Most important one!
→ Always communicate to ensure nothing gets lost in transition
→ We win together
→ Daily check-ins to stay connected
→ Regular meetings (make them longer to allow time for non-transactional things)
→ Clear responsibilities & goals
→ Address issues instantly
→ Make sure your setup is good no matter where you are (no distractions, good wifi, etc.)
→ In-Person Team Events

Of course, there are downsides: no coffee chats, no all-nighters together.

But I truly believe you can make remote-first work—and for me and magier, it's the right choice.

People say: “It’s too late to start with LinkedIn”. I think that’s bullsh**.

To me it is still the best platform out there to generate revenue for your business.

You just need to think about it. Only about 1% of LinkedIn users are creating content and if you are one of them you already made the first big step.

For me LinkedIn was the biggest game changer.

Over the last 2 years I:

→ Grew my followers from 5,000 to over 30,000
→ Got 1000+ applications just from my posts (and hired 35 top talents for magier)

Creating a YouTube video is only half the equation.

I learned that the hard way.

You plan, shoot, edit, upload...

And then: 27 views. No clicks. No traction.

Recently, I’ve spent way more time thinking about thumbnails and titles for our magier channel - because on YouTube, if people don’t know you yet, they won’t watch unless they click.

So now I’m testing different styles to see what actually works.

Will share some of the results in a couple of weeks.

Most people say they can do something, but they can't.

An uncomfortable truth I learned the hard way over and over again.

I know it sounds crazy, and maybe I am just bad at assessing people.

But the number of times someone told me they were able to pull something off and then disappointed me is literally countless.

No matter if freelancers, partners, agencies, or employees. 

Nowadays, I rather trust the results instead of the beautiful picture they are painting.

Everyone should do less talking and more doing (me included).
