I help our clients design and run country-wide and global innovation programmes. A few of my responsibilities:
- helping define programme strategy and aligning with the organisation's objectives and innovation agenda
- Creating compelling campaigns in collaboration with the oraganisation's comms and marketing team
- Use our platform to capture surfaced problems and opportunities by employees across the organisation
- Help design customised review processes, and run these decentralised review networks (global or local)

Innovation Consultant

At Uni I studied anthropology; people, communities, but also the science of politics, organisational hierarchy and psychology. It catalysed a fascination in cognitive science, group dynamics, ceremonies...

I spent the first 6 years of my career in innovation consulting, product and delivery management, but have found my passion in the art of the gathering and designing experiences for teams that allows them to connect - to nature, to themselves, their bodies (and tummys) and to each other.

My brother and I co-founded and run Momentum Retreats, where we take exec & leadership teams, whole companies and groups of founders and VCs to incredible locations to experience what we think will be one of the most nourishing, educational, sometimes challenging, but overall best & most exciting / connected experience of their lives (both in and outside of work). But, we also want it to be one of the most productive; time you spend outside of the office together, whether as a leadership team or as a whole company, can save you weeks or even months of burn rate.

The struggle is part of the curriculum of success, people just forget to tell you this!

Every time you doubt yourself, fail, adjust or try again, you’re literally strengthening the identity required to hold the success you say you want.

Anyone can set a goal.

But pushing through the difficult stage is what makes you successful.

It’s something I remind myself of daily.

1. Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson
Read time: 1 hour

Two mice, two humans, one maze, and the cheese disappears.

This book is one for resisting change!

The lesson: Stop waiting for things to go back to normal. They won't.

2. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
Read time: 2-3 hours

A dying professor shares 14 conversations about what actually matters in life.

Fair warning: You'll cry. I did. Twice.

The lesson: You can be wildly successful and still get life completely wrong.

3. The One Thing by Gary Keller
Read time: 3-4 hours 

The entire book boils down to one question:

"What's the ONE thing I can do such that by doing it, everything else becomes easier or unnecessary?"

The lesson: Stop adding to your to-do list. Start subtracting.

4. The Courage to Be Disliked - Ichiro Kishimi & Fumitake Koga
Read time: 3-4 hours

A philosopher and a skeptical young person debate Adlerian psychology over five nights.

The lesson: Other people's opinions are not your responsibility. You're not here to meet their expectations.

5. The Dip by Seth Godin
Read time: 1 hour

Most people quit right before the breakthrough. Others never quit things they should have abandoned years ago.

The lesson: Strategic quitting isn't failure, it's how smart people allocate their time.

Why I keep coming back to these:

They're all under 200 pages.

You can read them on a Sunday morning, during a flight, or while everyone else is watching Netflix.

But the important thing is that they are frameworks you'll actually use.

You won't remember every page. But you'll remember the lesson exactly when you need it.

5 books you can finish in a day

If you’re waiting for company, you’ll delay your own growth.

If you want momentum, get moving.

Someone told me this recently and it's been replaying in my head:

"If you want to go for a run, go for a run. Don't wait for company. The right people will find you along the way."

We do this everywhere though.

Health, work, relationships, travel.

Most people wait:

➡️ For timing,
➡️ For encouragement,
➡️ For approval,
➡️ For company.

But possibly the most important thing we can do in our lives is just make the move.

➡️ Start the routine. Make the change. Take the step you've been avoiding.

The people who match your energy will show up and the ones who don't will fade out. 

Both outcomes give you clarity!

Aside from our personal lives, it’s something I’ve seen a lot with teams I work with.

The ones that take the first step create alignment as they go. 

The ones that wait for perfect alignment never get it.

Someone has to move first.

➡️ Model the behaviour before there's a policy. 
➡️ Set direction before there's consensus. 
➡️ Build psychological safety before the rollout. 
➡️ Start before it feels comfortable.

Moving forward filters out the noise and shows people where you're headed!

That's what gets the right people on board.

If you wait for everyone to agree, you'll be waiting forever.

Move with intention and you build momentum that others can join.

Your leadership team has a conflict problem.

But it’s probably not the one you think!

I’ve facilitated more than 50 exec offsites. 

Here’s what I see in almost every one:

Low-performing teams on one end of the spectrum avoid conflict. 

And low-performing teams on the other end  take feedback and challenge as a personal threat. 

High-performing teams know that to grow and become the best, they need to use conflict to their advantage.

The most successful companies we work with are the ones that argue often about the important stuff, in a nonviolent way.

They fight about strategy, not each other. 

Productive conflict sounds like: "I disagree. Here's why. Here's my data. Change my mind."

Toxic conflict sounds like: "This is exactly why we're always stuck."

Your exec team should be focusing on having civil arguments, making decisions clearly, and committing fully. 

This applies to all members, even those who ‘lost’ the argument.

If your team never disagrees, it means they’re holding back.

If every agreement damages trust, you have dysfunction.

Productive vs. toxic conflict in leadership teams

I woke up this morning with no idea what to do.

I actually had too many things to do, but got stuck in a bit of decision fatigue/fog kind of moment.

My brain was spinning in circles with no clear answer.

So here’s what I did:

Got up anyway, and made myself a coffee.

Then, I stretched in the sun for 10 minutes.

Sitting in the bed overthinking was leading to me feeling 1 million times worse.

So I did what I could do best to avoid my day spiralling into something it didn’t need to be.

If you’re stuck right now, or find yourself laying in bed overthinking everything, try this:

● Get up anyway
● Make yourself a nice cup of tea or coffee
● Practice 10 minutes of sunlight and movement
● Do the smallest thing on your list
● If you don’t know what you’re doing, pretend you do
● Call someone who knows what they’re doing
● Write down the worst case
● Set a deadline for your decisions
● Ask yourself what life would look like if it were easy

Stop trying to know everything

What I’ve learned over the years is that you will very rarely think yourself out of being stuck.

To be successful, you need to start acting your way out.

Every day you spend "thinking about it" is a day you're not moving forward.

If you’re stuck right now, close LinkedIn and do one small thing.

The only way out is through!

Your exec team just spent £40K and two days at an offsite.

Everyone left energised, aligned and ready to execute.

But 30 days later, nothing's changed.

I've facilitated enough offsites to know that 90% of decisions made in offsites die within a month.

The main reason is that teams don’t build the systems to keep them alive.

This is what actually kills offsite decisions:

1. No single owner
Two owners = no owner. A team as owner = no owner.

The fix: Every decision gets one name. One DRI. Not a committee.

2. No forcing function
Decisions without deadlines drift. Decisions without check-ins disappear.

The fix: Set a 30-day review date before you leave the offsite. Non-negotiable.

3. The CEO stops talking about it
You made five decisions. The CEO mentions one, once.
Everyone assumes the other four don't matter.

The fix: Repeat offsite decisions until you're sick of saying them. Then repeat them 10 more times.

4. No consequences for non execution
Week 3: Behind. Week 6: Stalled. Week 10: No one mentions it.

The fix: If someone commits and doesn't deliver, have the conversation.

5. It wasn't actually a decision
You agreed to "explore options" or "come back with a proposal."

That's a task, not a decision.

The fix: A real decision has three things:

1. What we're doing (specifically)
2. Who owns it (one name)
3. When it's done (actual date)

I realised this was happening often, so I started to do things differently.

Before each offsite ends, we create a 30-60-90 commitment map.

Every decision gets:

● One DRI
● 30-day milestone
● 60-day check-in
● 90-day outcome

Then the CEO or exec team reads it out loud to the team.

The reality is that your offsite decisions will die unless you force them to live.

These decisions survive on: 

● Clear ownership
● Forcing functions
● Relentless repetition
● Real accountability

The offsite is mile one, not the finish line.

Why 90% of offsite decisions die within 30 days

I used to think I had a motivation problem.

Turns out, I had a system problem.

Everyone talks about consistency like it's a personality trait you either have or don't.

It's not.

Consistency isn't about willpower. It's about removing the friction that makes you quit.

After some years of trying to figure it out, this is what I’ve found works for me:

1. Make it so small you can't say no
You want to post on LinkedIn consistently? Instead of committing to "3 posts a week”, start with one sentence. 

Write one sentence every day. That's it.

2. Tie it to something you already do
Don't rely on "finding time" for new habits. 

Attach the new thing to something you already do every day.

Write one LinkedIn post idea while your coffee brews

Stretch right after you brush your teeth

3. Plan for the break
You're going to miss a day. That's totally normal.

The difference is that quitters miss one day and think: "Well, I blew it. Might as well stop."

Consistent people miss one day and think: "Okay, I'm back tomorrow."

4. Remove the decisions
Every decision is a chance to quit.

"Should I work out today?" "Should I write this post?" "Should I make that call?"

The more you ask, the more you'll say no.

Decide once, then remove the decision.

5. Focus on showing up, not results
This is the big one.

You think: "I'll work out consistently once I see results."

That’s so wrong. You see results once you work out consistently.

The goal isn't to write a viral post. The goal is to write!

What changed for me is that I stopped trying to be motivated every day.

I started making it easier to do the thing than to skip it.

Consistency is just doing the boring thing again and again until it becomes a habit.

Then you start getting good at the thing!

The Ultimate Guide to Designing Company Offsites

Too many offsites waste money on the wrong things..

Expensive venue, catered meals, team-building exercises, and everyone flies home feeling good.

Then, nothing changes.

The real problems are still there, the tough decisions still unmade, the strategy still living in the CEO’s head.

The big difference between offsites that create ROI and just expensive corporate shows:

Low-ROI offsites look like this:
→ Agenda built around "what sounds good" not "what needs deciding" 
→ Everyone presents updates (you could've done this on Zoom) 
→ Breakout sessions that produce ideas, not decisions 
→ Conflict gets smoothed over instead of resolved 
→ Action items assigned to "the team" (translation: nobody) 
→ You leave with a parking lot of issues to "circle back on"

High-ROI offsites look like this:
→ Pre-work identifies the 3 decisions that MUST be made 
→ First 30 minutes: Name the elephant in the room 
→ Presentations banned (send decks ahead, discuss only) 
→ Breakouts produce decisions with single owners, not ideas 
→ The hard conversation happens (even if it's uncomfortable) 
→ You leave with max 5 commitments, each with one DRI and a date

The difference isn't the venue or the budget.

It's whether you're willing to use the time for what actually matters.

I ask every CEO the same question before we start planning:

"What decision are you avoiding that's costing you the most?"

That question becomes the agenda.

If your exec team needs bonding, take them to dinner.

If you need decisions made and alignment created, run an offsite.

But don't confuse the two.

And for the love of God, stop doing icebreakers with people who've worked together for 3 years! 

The ROI test:
If I asked your exec team 30 days after the offsite what changed, could they name 3 specific things?

If not, you planned a holiday, not an offsite.

Most exec offsites are a waste of money

You should absolutely be calculating the ROI of your offsite. 

If you’re not, you're leaving money (and momentum) on the table.

A lot of people still treat offsites as a “nice to have.” 

A day out of the office where teams go through strategy and build trust.

Often forgetting about the strategies and lessons learned only a few weeks later.

But if you want to build a team that actually performs at a higher level, not just for a day, but for the next 12 months, your offsite needs to earn its place on the P&L.

And honestly… I absolutely believe you should be calculating the ROI of your offsite.

Here’s a simple example:

If your offsite creates even a 5% productivity improvement, that typically looks like:

• 1,000 additional productive hours across the team

• At a blended rate of £100/hour, that’s £100,000 in recovered value

• If the offsite cost you £50,000

• You’ve generated a 100% return in year one

And that’s without factoring in:

 – Reduced conflict
 – Lower turnover
 – Improved decision-making
 – Clearer priorities
 – Faster execution
 – And teams that actually enjoy working together.

None of this happens by accident.

It comes from intention.

From a space that invites people to slow down, reconnect, tell the truth, and think clearly again.
