Monash University

This PhD research challenges the present use of measurement scales in data science. The findings show that machine learning algorithms often produce better precision values by assuming that numeric data belong to the ordinal scale than they belong the interval scale.  Thus, the real-world data come with no guaranteed scale labels as nature and measurement processes transform data inadvertently and therefore, the least number of assumptions make more sense.  To apply the finding in real-world data science, introduced Unsupervised Stochastic Forest (usForest) for unsupervised learning and Quantilization for supervised learning.  Content-based Multimedia Information Retrieval, DBScan Clustering, Artificial Neural Networks, Naive Bayes Classifier, Linear Discriminant Analysis, Support Vector Machines, K-Nearest Neighbour Classification, Multinomial Logistic Regression were included in the final thesis to prove the success of the findings.

I served as a lecturer in Intelligent Systems, Data Mining, Advanced Algorithms, Computer Networking, Databases & Numerical Methods for Computer Science. I redesigned the infrastructure of the data communication lab.  I designed and conducted lab exercises for data communication. I was also responsible for Industrial Training Inspections. 

I evaluated Student Projects and provided feedback and guidance on how they could improve their performance. I also served as a part-time Perl and Linux lecturer for IDM Corporate Training Programs (http://www.idm.lk/courses/corporate-training).

I led the Dialog Axiata 3GPP compliant policy control and charging system project to support  GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSPA, CDMA, WiMAX, WiFi, and PSTN-Dialup access technologies. I was also responsible for the planning, Implementation, and administration of Dialog Centralised AAA system, Retail Email System, Dialog DNS, and Centralised Services Infrastructure (including Reverse Proxy, Forward Proxy, NMS, Configuration Management and NTP), Dialog Internet Data Centre and Virtualisation Solutions. 

I developed parsers for Radius, SIP, Mail, and DNS log files. Implemented real-time and offline mining to extract information on user behaviours, faults and trends.

In this role, I developed a WAP Gateway and a Multi-Service Proxy. I was responsible for maintaining ISO Standards and Business Continuity Plans. I created statistical reports for access methods, AAA System, Email System, DNS System, and IDC services and served as Technical Leader on a variety of projects including:

As an Engineer for ISP Services, I planned, designed and implemented AAA (Authentication, Authorisation, and Accounting) infrastructure. I completed system analysis and design of complex internet software systems related to AAA and was responsible for many System Integration projects and served as the Manager in charge for the System Integration Team and the Internet Software Development team.

As a technical leader, I developed converged services with Mobitel Pvt Ltd, a fully own mobile subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom. I implemented ISO standards and BCP in the areas under my purview and was responsible for project management and staff supervision, ensuring all technical processes and deliverables were met according to proposed standards.

I evaluated technical proposals for feasibility and accuracy and managed disaster recovery and business process continuity planning for the department. Working directly with staff, I trained and developed subordinates in accordance with company and industry practice, setting them up for success within the company.
