Here’s what they aren’t telling you: 

Along the way, you will get knocked off track, fall short of your goals, face failure and frustration. This causes most people to feel unhappy. ☹️ 

The Happiness Lie 😖 —> "You'll be happy when..." it’s an endless cycle. 🔄

Achieving our goals can be downright exhausting. There will be days when you want to give up. There will be times when your energy levels flatline, and you wonder why you bother getting out of bed. 

It doesn’t need to be that way. 

Usually, there are two missing ingredients.

First Missing Ingredient — Persistence

What’s missing from someone else’s journey, path, process, or course is how to be persistent.

You only hear about the flashy, sexy success thingy… 

PERSISTENCE 1️⃣0️⃣1️⃣

Persistence is doing something despite 
difficulty or delay in achieving success.

Persistence is a simple 5 step process:
1️⃣ What's the next step?
2️⃣ What's in the way of taking that next step?
3️⃣ Eliminate, mitigate, or ignore the obstacle.
4️⃣ Take the step.
5️⃣ Go to 1️⃣

Persistence will keep you on track, help you achieve your goals, and reduce frustration.

But persistence alone is not enough. 
The second missing ingredient is happiness. 
Happiness is a state of mind that you can choose. 
You possess the power to be happy right here and right now. 

The key lies in activating the right part of your brain and experiencing positive emotions. When faced with failure, employ these five modes — curiosity, empathy, creativity, innovation, and purpose-driven action, to convert the challenge into a gift. 

These modes activate positive emotions, from empathy and compassion to gratitude and wonder, culminating in peace and calm. Happiness is an interstate of the mind, and when you cultivate positive emotions, you unlock the gateway to happiness.

It's not just about staying on track. It's about refining the journey. Happiness isn't post-achievement. It's now.

Persistence + Positive Mindset = Real Success and Happiness 🌟

When you combine persistence with a positive mindset, you can achieve both success and happiness.

Journaling and...Defeating Your Saboteurs

Do you sometimes struggle to stay positive and feel like you're not in control of your mood? Here's a simple trick to become a better observer of your own emotions and energy levels! 

🏷️ All you need to do is label each observation as negative, positive, or neutral. 

😧 Negative emotions include stress, anxiety, fear, anger, disappointment, doubt, shame, and guilt. 

😃Positive emotions include peace of mind, gratitude, curiosity, passion, empathy, delight, joy, and love. 

😑 Neutral emotions are those without any emotional charge, like when you're doing simple tasks.

🔎 By observing your emotions and moods regularly and labeling them, you'll start to notice patterns and understand what's causing negative emotions. This way, you can catch yourself when you're in a bad mood and shift your mindset to a positive one. 

⚖️ Don't worry, you're not judging your emotions or feelings, just observing them. This blameless self-observation is the key to determining whether you're in a bad mood or not. 

By observing your emotions and mood regularly and labeling them, you'll start to understand how much mental and emotional energy you're wasting. This way, you can start to shift more quickly from negative to positive emotions automatically. 

Make Today Day One:
Start observing and labeling your emotions and moods as positive, negative, or neutral without judging yourself. It's an easy technique that can help you become more aware of your emotions and stay in control of your mood.

Monitor Emotions, Feelings, and Moods: The Essentials

Why it’s a game-changer:
- Self-awareness: Know what triggers you. Master your reactions.
- Decision-making: Clearer mind, better choices. Emotions cloud logic.
- Relationships: Understand yourself and others. Fewer conflicts, deeper connections.

Not monitoring? Here’s the fallout:
- Time Drain: Emotional spirals waste time. Recovery is slow.

This tiny wonder can soak up practically anything you throw at it. Whether it's water, grease, or even dirt that you didn't even know existed on your kitchen counter, this little beast can handle it all.

And when you give it a good squeeze, it unleashes everything it's absorbed right out of its pores.

Imagine using a sponge to clean up some nasty, greasy mess on your frying pan. Now, picture taking that same sponge and squeezing it right over your friend's head.

Gross, right?

But here's the thing - your mind works just like a sponge. It soaks up everything around you, and if you're not careful, it'll start to leak out all the negativity, doubt, and fear you've absorbed.

Like a sponge, your mind can only hold so much before it starts to overflow.

So choose wisely what you soak up in your mind. 
Don't let it absorb anything that'll pollute your thoughts and drag you down. 
Stay positive, stay motivated, and keep soaking up the good vibes!

It's essential to remember that setting goals is different from achieving them, and sometimes, we need to let things go to find true freedom. We need to optimize our minds to optimize our results, so it's essential to think about what inspires us and take action to achieve our goals.

My client called. Her important presentation was a big fat FAIL.
Screen sharing was glitchy, the special design software crashed,
video froze, and everything that could go wrong 😑 did — accept this…

By all ‘standards’ the presentation was a disaster.

When I asked how did it go, she said 
“While there were a few technology flat tires, I didn’t let that rattle me. In the past, I would freeze up, shut down, and lose all confidence, but not this time. I did the visualization technique we worked on before the presentation. Even though there were issues, I was able to stay on point and message. The entire presentation didn’t go as planned… people showed up late, and some left early, and everyone was asking different questions. The conversation was all over the place. I would usually stress out. Instead, I did a few PQ reps. It helped to center me and focus on them.”

Wow 🤩 Just WOW 🤩 

The first thing we did was celebrate 🎉 

The presentation WAS a SUCCESS because she was totally present, aware, engaged, and client-focused. It wasn’t about the presentation, the slides, the software, or the tech issues. It was all about the client and profoundly focusing on what they needed.

The customer was totally engaged and asked for an additional presentation and demonstration to firm up and lock down the design and details. I’d call that a WIN!

Let’s break this down:
I love the reframe — a few technology flat tires 🛞 
Notice she didn’t say it was a disaster! 🙌 
She did the visualization before the presentation ✅ 
Was aware of prior triggers that would cause her to shut down 🎗️
Self-compassion, she didn’t beat herself up over things out of her control. 💚 

And the real WIN in this is the mindful exercise she did to recenter herself. 

We call them PQ reps.

What is a PQ rep? 

It’s 10 seconds of focusing on physical sensations like touch, sight, or sound to quiet your negative self and activate your positive self. With each PQ rep, you develop greater mastery over your mind, quiet the negative, and activate the positive region of your brain. Doing PQ reps builds your ability to focus on the present moment and minimize stress.

If you are going to an important meeting, giving a presentation, or preparing for a negotiation, in moments of tension or preparation, PQ reps are excellent tools to calm your mental chatter and achieve extraordinary results. Now that’s equanimity!

It’s easier than you might imagine. Don’t get me wrong—you’ll have to work for this. But the payoff will be huge. And it’s not like you must bring everything to a grinding halt.

At first, I was able to save an hour a day using these four strategies

Strategies I Used to Win Back My Time:
1. Boosted My Energy: Got active, ate right, and slept better.
2. Guard My Time: It's precious. Start treating it that way.
3. Sharpen My Focus: Less multitasking, more progress.
4. Flex My ‘No’ Muscle: It’s okay to say no. Really, it is.

For the past decade, I’ve been able to shave off and save at least 10 hours from my workweek.

You might even be able to trim more. But ten hours a week is huge! That’s like getting back one forty-hour week each month. That’s twelve weeks—an entire quarter—every year!

Think about what you could do with more margin in your life. Go back to the list above. 

Ten hours a week could start turning all of those negatives into positives.

Conditional happiness is the greatest source of anxiety, fear, worry, anger, resentment, depression, sadness, burnout, jealousy, and loneliness. We miss life and happiness while chasing the ‘dream.’

What if… you could be happy while chasing the dream? 🤔 

Why Wait? Shift Your Perspective

Traditional mindset: Have, Do, Be
  - "When I have [X], I'll do [Y], and then I’ll be [Z]."

Empowered approach: Be, Do, Have
  - "Who must I be? What must I do? So that I can have [desired outcome]?"

Be Do Have is a powerful flip of these words. It inspires us to take action. 
It asks us to decide who we need to be to achieve what we want.
Be: What type of person achieves the results I'm seeking?
Do: What choices, behaviors, and habits define them?
Have: What results and outcomes are part of their life?

Good News | Bad News:
The formula works for everyone, and everyone’s answer will be different.

I don’t know what your answer is. I can share what I found for myself. It took me a few laps around the sun to figure it out. I was running fast on the HAVE-DO-BE dreadmill.

Why "Be, Do, Have" Works:
Be: Defines the identity or state of being needed.
Do: Outlines necessary actions, behaviors, and habits.
Have: Envisions the results and outcomes. 

It inspires proactive living and self-driven achievements.

Real-Life Impact:
Personal: Achieving happiness independent of external circumstances.
  - Example: When calm and compassionate, happiness follows naturally.

Professional: Applies to business, leadership, and financial success.
  - Success starts with being the person who can achieve the desired outcomes.

From Victim to Winner:
Victim: Have, Do, Be – Dependent on external changes.
Worker: Do, Have, Be – Busy and tired, defined by actions.
Winner: Be, Do, Have – Identity drives actions, and results naturally follow.

BE happy
DO the things in life that reflect that happiness.
You will HAVE everything you’ve ever wanted.

Things you can do to be that BE DO HAVE person:
1. Identify the person you need to be to achieve your goals.
2. Determine actions that person would take.
3. Visualize the outcomes that naturally arise from those actions.

Believe in the power of "Be, Do, Have" to create significant shifts.

Failure can be fatal 


If you let it. 

Most, if not all, failure is recoverable… 

Winston Churchill knew a thing or two about this. He spilled the TEA with this, "Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm." 

So, what do you do when you fail? 

First things first, don't beat yourself up. 

Dwelling on the negative stuff won't get you anywhere. 

Instead, focus your Time, Energy, and Attention [TEA] on what you can learn from the mistake. 

After all, the best teacher is often our last mistake.

So how do we make that happen?

Change your perspective and reflect — ask yourself:
🤔 What was I trying to do?
📉 What went wrong?
🗓️ When did it go wrong?
🤓 What did you learn? 
🙏 What are you grateful for?
🔀 What will you do differently?

Accept it.
Learn from it. 
Improve from it. 
Most importantly, don’t stop.

You know the ‘feeling’:
I’ll be happy if/when [blank] occurs.

We convince ourselves that we'll only be happy if/when a particular deal closes, or we hit a certain target. But, as you know, that feeling of happiness is short-lived and quickly replaced by worry and anxiety about the next thing. It’s a vicious and never-ending cycle 🔄 

You become a deal junkie. You put happiness on hold.
This impacts your mindset and performance.

The GREAT news is that it’s fixable. 
But we need to do a little work to re-wire your thinking.
More GREAT news — it only takes 30 days — 15 minutes a day to see results.

What happens if you don’t fix it?
Well, nothing changes… duh 🙄 

But here’s the real impact of a conditional happiness: 
Over time, it gains the upper hand, leading to burnout, conflict, stress, and underperformance. 

Long term effects — it f*cks-up a lot of stuff — your health, your relationships; it shakes your confidence too… You blame the ‘man’, the company, the gig… then you move to the next one… guess what? Same sh!t happens.

Ever feel like you're flying off-course? It happens. A little nugget hit home for me: life, like an airplane journey, rarely goes straight from A to B. It's the adjustments along the way that count.

While most flights arrive at their destination on time, they are off-course about 90% of the time due to turbulence and other factors. But, through the use of air traffic control and guidance systems, pilots can course-correct and ensure that they reach their destination safely.
