This morning, I was consulting for a recently exited DTC brand founder.

He's planning his next big brand.

He asked me "How do I know when the right time is to launch google shopping"

Avoiding the usual 'it depends', I gave him specific advice and asked 3 questions...

What's the budget and goal?
What other channels are you running?
What's your average order value and lifetime value?

(I know 100's of you find these conversations tough, you DM me about it daily)

1) if they have a budget less than 5-10k/mo each channel, it's probably best to consolidate spend to one channel.

Kill it, then take the learnings and start another channel.

Don't spread yourself too thin.

2) If they are running paid social - look at the results, the CPA's, the creatives. 

Take ALL the learnings you can and you will have a good idea whether google will work for them or not.

3) Often founders aren't sure on their average order value and lifetime value. In general, you want it to be as high as possible. Increasing it can be as simple as them selling a bundle, a double pack if it's like a bar or cookies for example.

They NEED to work this out before running ads.

Of course, giving advice like this is hard.

But I know you guys get a grilling from founders about this stuff.

Write better Google Ads Copy



As someone who writes ads, I can tell you it’s not as easy as you think.

As a business, you want to give your customers as much information as possible to help them decide without overwhelming them.

Your ad copy must include:


💡Keywords
💡Selling points
💡Calls to action
💡Emotional Trigger
💡Business information

All in a measly 30-character headline.

Oh yeah…And you have to make it engaging.


So how can you make ad copy stand out? 


- Mention how your product can make their life easy and save time.
- Use emotional triggers, fear, and scarcity to engage people
- Address your customers' pain points
- Use some social proof
- Utilize ad extensions
- Use some keywords
- Use statistics 
- Use CTA

3 ways to level up your Google Ads campaign↓


💡First up, testing your ad creative:

All you need to do is check your product image quality, add reviews, and to stand out you can set a colored background as well.

💡Secondly, tell Google who you are targeting:

So many people miss this step but it’s the easiest way to do exactly what Google Ads is meant to be. stop irrelevant clicks and ACCELERATE relevant ones. Do this by adding keywords to your product titles and descriptions and also include a negative list to stop showing your ads to irrelevant queries.

💡Finally, work on a roadmap:

If you are serious about your business growth you have to align your business goals with your marketing strategy for a long time like improving sales for the next quarter. A longer Google ads campaign can help you build brand recognition, maximize Conversion rate with data, and ensure profitability. So work on a 3 to 6 months roadmap.

Don’t make these fatal merchant center mistakes↓
