I made a huge mistake some years ago…

Companies would be much better at hiring if they just changed this one thing...


Instead of waiting until there is feedback to give feedback

Make it a priority to establish touch points throughout the interview process 


Agency recruiter, internal recruiter, hiring manager.. if you just made it a habit to touch base with candidates before the weekend..

I posted a job on here recently.. guess what happened


I posted an AE role that I'm working on

I received dozens of applications from job seekers..

Who are...

Not. a. fit.


Job seekers, you KNOW that I know that ghosting is a problem

But you aren't helping the situation by applying for roles that aren't remotely a fit for your background


Example.. if the posting says 'must have experience w/ xyz software or in xyz industry'..

Your radar should go up

This doesn't mean you don't apply yet..

But you need to do some further digging..

If nothing else aligns and you can't make a case for why your experience would translate nicely into the role

DO NOT APPLY


We have to start cleaning up the world of hiring

It starts with you not applying for stuff you aren't a fit for

Candidates are humans outside of their resume


Imagine someone sitting at the table with their family this week…
But they’re struggling to be present because they’re waiting to hear where they stand with your company

Imagine they’re stressed about bills..
Knowing Christmas is around the corner

Imagine they’re losing sleep..
All while you’re quietly planning to make them an offer


If you’ve interviewed anyone recently..
Give them clarity before the holiday weekend


If they’re a strong contender → Tell them.. 
Keep them warm, excited, and engaged

If they aren’t a fit → Tell them
Close the loop for them..and for yourself

If you’re unsure → A “no update” is still an update

Doing this protects your brand, reputation, bottom line and.. it's kind
