•	Revamped the entire buying commitment process. Reduced overall production lead times by 14%, resulting in better buying decisions, ability to chase trends, and reduced excess inventory.  Facilitated greater in-region sourcing and development of raw materials.
•	Partnered with overseas sourcing offices to drive on-boarding of new vendors and off-shore facilities. Reduced percentage of sweater (high FOB) category made in China from 80% to zero in order to shield against China tariff cost pressure.
•	Advocated the use of preferred/sustainable fibers and successfully transitioned men’s sweaters to the use of Better Cotton.

Vice President, Production, Chaps Mens and RTW

Responsible for the development and production of all categories and divisions of Childrenswear from design handoff to finished goods, generating $884M in revenue for FY19.  Product categories included all knits, wovens, and sweaters for Boys 2-20, Girls 2-16, and Baby Newborn-24 months.
•	Developed, mentored, and managed a team of 24 people to facilitate fabric and product development for all channels of global distribution for Ralph Lauren Childrenswear.
•	Collaborated with testing, quality, and legal teams to ensure product was compliant with global regulatory standards.  
•	Partnered with raw material teams to drive the implementation and growth of the use of preferred/sustainable fibers and components such as traceable down suppliers, BCI cotton, and recycled polyester.
•	Led the initiation of vendor-created digital product development by creating a “Shirt Shop” for Polo Factory Stores which resulted in the elimination of the need for samples or sketches and allowed buyers to assort their woven shirt lines in a digital environment via Browzwear and Stylezone, saving 4-6 weeks development time.
•	Rolled out fabric platforming and positioning across all channels to reduce cost and lead time.  Reduced overall production lead times for Basic Stock Replenishment (BSR) programs by 28 days. Reviewed global inventory needs and rebalanced purchasing cadence to improve fill rates.
•	Reduced lead times and TFG cost by strategic allocation of product based on buying region and existing Free Trade Agreements.
•	Traveled to Asia, India, and western hemisphere vendors for cost negotiation, development trips, and factory visits.

Developed and produced all categories of Childrenswear for Polo Factory Stores, Chaps, American Living, and Off-price accounts from design handoff to finished goods.  
•	Accountable for all knits, wovens, and sweaters for Boys 2-20, Girls 2-16, and baby newborn-24 months.

Identified and on boarded new vendors, increasing factory matrix to improve costing and meet new category needs.  Negotiated all prices, deliveries, and minimum order quantities. Ensured that product was compliant with rapidly changing regulations for children’s apparel imported into the United States. Sourced, costed, and developed all private label styles for Best and Company. Developed and implemented calendar, costing, and time and action templates. Sourced all raw materials for production in tandem with head designer.
•	Reviewed production at local domestic vendors in tandem with technical designer to confirm quality standards were being met and to trouble shoot any production issues.
•	Partnered with the company’s President on special collaborative projects with celebrity design partners for exclusive product launches.
•	Regularly traveled to flagship store in Greenwich, CT and Bergdorf Goodman boutique to merchandise floor, meet with sales team, and engage with customers.  Assisted with trunk shows and other in-store events.

Directed the development, costing, allocation, and production of girls knit and woven apparel. Collaborated with cross functional partners including design, merchandising, technical design, and testing. Communicated daily with overseas offices and vendors.

I want you to love LinkedIn as much as I do.

It's no longer the LinkedIn of 2015; a dry repository for an electronic version of your resume and a place to frantically go when you need to find your next opportunity.

I speak from personal experience.

I am not just another LinkedIn coach. I have lived the experience of going from being inactive here (a few hundred connections, zero engagement) to being a LinkedIn Top Voice with an instantly recognizable personal brand and a powerful community.

In 2020, I lost my job at my dream company -- where I had worked for over a decade. Living in NYC in the heart of the Covid pandemic, I felt both lost (who was I without the title I had worked so hard to achieve?) and trapped (lockdowns were in full force for many months).

For years, I had been the embodiment of climbing that corporate ladder. I grew from an entry level assistant to a brand Vice President, working for iconic American fashion companies. Driven by my love of the industry and a vision cultivated since high school, I was living the dream career that I had thoughtfully crafted. And then suddenly, it was gone.

What now?

After much soul searching, I launched my own consultancy - guiding brands through their product development, sourcing, and production needs. This unveiled a world of possibilities, granting me the opportunity to collaborate on a wide variety of products and projects.

But the pandemic offered another gift; a newfound love for LinkedIn. I was able to witness firsthand the magic that emerges when we harness this platform's full potential. LinkedIn gave me back my voice, and helped me to build an incredible community that it is my privilege to be part of and to support.

I realized that my true calling is helping others to find their voice, develop their personal brand, and craft their thought leadership. Aside from LinkedIn, my Notes app is the most used one on my phone.

Searching through it is like visiting an antique shop. I never know what I am going to come away with.

Sometimes it is notes from an event I attended. Sometimes it is a random thought that popped into my head while walking down the street.

Sometimes, it's a grocery list that I forgot to delete.

I truly can't recall the context of the note I found last night. But, maybe it can be just that simple.  How can you give away some happiness today?

The first thing my client said when she joined our zoom was, "I've never posted anything - ever." 

She was stuck. Posting content loomed in her head, the elephant in the room that became bigger and bigger the longer she waited.  

After years in corporate, she had had enough and had started her own boutique consultancy. Her target clients, she knew, were on LinkedIn. But the idea of putting her thoughts out there was terrifying.  

She was me in 2020, so I knew exactly how she felt. The first post that I wrote (and "wrote' is up for debate when I look back on it -- it was a repost) felt like I was jumping into the Atlantic without a life vest.

So we chatted. At the end of the hour, she had several strong, viable ideas for content pillars, as well as a posting and engagement strategy that she felt was manageable. Now, she posts twice a week, plans content in advance, and finds LinkedIn to be the resource for clients that she had hoped it would be.

I go back to the same advice I swear by here. 

Our content is important.  Content is king.
But the comments -- are the keys to the kingdom.

Health is wealth.  Most of us know this intrinsically and yet, it often takes a health issue to remind us just how true it is.

Yesterday I threw my back out, pretty badly. This is the second time this has happened to me. 

Having been through it once, I had a little bit better idea of what I would need to do, as well as what my limitations are. 

You don’t realize how important your back is until any movement that uses it causes you to have a shocking amount of pain as the muscles all tense up and spasm.

I used to be a dedicated fan of pilates classes, but my studio shut down during the pandemic and never reopened. Other locations exist of course, but nothing was as convenient and didn’t feel familiar.

I would bet that if I had still been taking classes, my core would be stronger and my back better supported.

Once I’m back to mobility, here is my public pledge to work on that. I don’t want this back pain ever again.

I am grateful that one of the building porters always saves canes, crutches, etc after residents discard them — “just in case”. This is twice I’ve been a “just in case”. 

He had two canes for me to choose from; this was the taller one, which I need at my height.  Not exactly my persona, but I kinda like it. 🔥 🔥 🔥

How much energy do you waste worrying about things that won't matter-- a week from now, a month from now, a year from now?

Earlier this month, Leslie Nydick and I spoke about the things we would tell our younger selves -- and this was a big one for me.

Even today, I sometimes have to take that step back and remind myself that the thing I am so worried about won't even be on my radar in the not so distant future.

I love that Opus made a mini clip out of this exact segment. I think it qualifies as a #linkedinnugget.  I hope you do too!

Why now?

Well, if not now, when?

I had a conversation with someone yesterday about bootcamp. She knows she needs the support and guidance and that she needs(and wants) to do this work. 

But… it’s summer.

Here’s the thing. It’s always something. Sure, we will have a fall bootcamp. But fall will come with its own set of challenges. And then, it will be “so close to the holidays”.

Here’s the truth. There is no shortage of perfectly viable excuses for putting things off. But in today’s world, a simple, tactical, and powerful personal brand is a must. It’s how to stand out and stand apart from the noise.

A clear and well-defined personal brand is truly your differentiator.

Consider this the accelerator for what you want on the other side— a new role, launching your business, finding new clients, starting your podcast.

I have always been fascinated by the power of the written word. 

As such, I often mourn the decline, although thankfully not the extinction, of hand written letters and especially of postcards — that ultimate vacation souvenir that you can share with others.

But postcards used to be a regular means of communication— not just a way to show off your latest travels. 

I took a few days off recently to relax with family. On our way to the beach, we visited a charming bookstore which also sold the most eclectic assortment of antiques and memorabilia. My favorite find? A drawer filled with vintage postcards. 

A The Wall Street Journal article last week captured my heart; the story of a man whose mission is to deliver postcards left at a post office in the Galapagos Islands as part of a 200 year old tradition.

To date, he has traveled 32,000 miles and successfully delivered 20 postcards.  His goals?  To encourage people to connect, and (a tribute to his late father who had Motor Neuron Disease) to raise awareness of the abilities that most of us take for granted.

Has the perfect book ever found you at the perfect time?

I met Liz Elting at a Bold Table dinner hosted by Leigh B..  I am a little embarrassed to admit, before that night, I didn't know a lot about Liz's story.  Check out her profile and you will see why I can't believe that either.

But it was a good thing, because I probably would not have had the courage to speak with her at the cocktail hour if I knew just how accomplished she is.  Side note - she was incredibly friendly and kind and I felt like I was speaking with a good friend.

Over dinner I heard Liz's inspiring story. It left an impact on me and made me think. However, I was not yet in a place of total clarity around my business. As part of the evening, I received a copy of Liz's book, Dream Big and Win. I added it to my library knowing that I would read it when the timing was right. My books find me when I need them.

In recent months, I have started to dream big. I pulled Dream Big and Win from the shelf and started reading. And I couldn't stop.  

This book is for every entrepreneur with a vision, and a dream to follow your heart. 

Filled with life lessons, words of wisdom, personal anecdotes and life experiences, this book is a joy to read and a life lesson in entrepreneurship. I have pages of notes and wore out my highlighter.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to turn their passion into something so much more. You will not be disappointed.

What is the surest way to build brand loyalty? Exceptional and unparalleled customer service.

Depending upon the source, it is estimated that somewhere between 70% and 80% of New York City restaurants fail within the first five years.

Union Square Cafe has been one of my favorite destinations for most of my adult life. While it opened in 1985, I started dining there in the mid '90's. I felt like I was part of something special when I ate there; a restaurant that was simultaneously chic and not the easiest reservation to score and yet was homey, welcoming, and friendly.

USC never disappoints. For our anniversary last month, my husband and I had dinner there. From the moment we walked in, that amazing hospitality and focus on the customer shone through.

Our table was reserved outdoors, but the evening was proving to be unusually warm. With a smile, we were assured that they could find a table for us indoors. And they did. 

When we arrived at said table, a handwritten postcard congratulated us on our anniversary and thanked us for spending it with them. Every single person at every single touch point was friendly, engaging, and seemed genuinely happy to be there. From the person who brought us water (still or sparkling, on the house, no awkward "oh, tap is fine"), to the person who brought our drinks, noticed the table was slightly wobbly, and knelt to fix it immediately, to our waitstaff (scallops cooked well, not just seared, no problem at all), everything was a ten out of ten. 

Full from our delicious meals but wowed by the dessert menu, we ordered an unbelievable stracciatella affogato to share.  Brought along with it - a complimentary companion dessert, plated with celebratory chocolate ganache lettering.

Despite the fact that our table should have been outside and we were in prime dinner hours, we never once felt rushed or pressured to leave. We were checked on to make sure we were happy, not to nudge us to towards the door.

For years, I embodied that classic narrative of climbing the corporate ladder. I grew from an entry level assistant to a brand Vice President, working for iconic American fashion companies. Driven by my love of the industry and a vision cultivated since high school, I was living the dream career that I had thoughtfully crafted.

Then came 2020 with its massive shifts and challenges. The pandemic's upheaval forced me to reimagine my own career trajectory. In doing so, I launched my consultancy -  guiding brands through their product development, sourcing, and production needs. This has unveiled a world of possibilities, granting me the privilege to collaborate on a wide variety of products and projects.

Interestingly, the pandemic wielded another gift; a newfound love for LinkedIn. I was able to witness firsthand the magic that emerges when we harness this platform's full potential.  When I suddenly found myself without the job that I had loved, I was lost. I realized that so much of my identity and self worth had been tied up in my job. It was such a huge piece of how I saw myself, and when it was gone, a big part of me felt gone too. LinkedIn helped me change that, through connection, community, and finding my voice. It is wonderful to be able to help others do the same.
