I spent 13 years working in-house at agencies, with two experiences that led me to build my business. I started my career at a mad men era agency. It was a boys club at the top. I made incredible connections (a few which remain close friends today) but when I found out my salary was less than half of my peers’ and was told they had no growth paths for me outside of my admin role, I left the cubicle life behind forever. I ended my agency career at an indie agency in NYC. I spent a decade being an intrapreneur, building a business within a business. I transitioned from account management to business development through strong business intuition and a relationships-first approach to growth. I spent a decade experimenting, codifying our approach, adopting and implementing the tools we needed to be more efficient, and building a growth-focused team. I found myself increasingly frustrated by an agency model that promoted a hustle culture instead of a culture of creativity and intense chaos over thoughtful coordination.
