Used AI and ML to create chatbots, predictive elements to gameplay, and more. Allowed users to contribute content and build their own areas. Had in the range of 100,000 unique users around the world at peak.

Created much of the technology myself. Managed business aspects. Hired and managed engineers, artists, and content writers. Original code base was written on the MOO and ColdMUD platforms. Later rewritten in C and Python with a standard database backend.

On the software architecture team I developed Azure cloud storage solutions, barcode detection and recognition, PDF generation and conversion, and ASP.NET and KnockoutJS based web applications. I also worked directly with the research and innovation team to create tools for generating images for e-paper screens. Worked with MuPDF, Callas, Ghostscript, ImageMagick, and OpenCV.

Transformed a brick and mortar distributor of plumbing and HVAC supplies into an online retailer. As the existing business collapsed during the recession I helped the company reinvent itself into an Internet company and helped it sell its expertise in Internet sales and fulfilment to other small businesses.

I created multiple retail websites and helped other employees to sell product on Amazon and eBay. I helped update the existing networking and systems and created a new technological infrastructure enabling the company to grow rapidly. New systems included servers running VMware for virtualisation and cloud services; RedHat Enterprise Linux for Apache web servers, file servers, Eclipse ERP servers, and other services; Windows Server connected desktop Windows systems; Mac OS X Server connected desktop Mac systems and iOS mobile devices; 10Gb networking within server room with 1Gb and wireless on-site and fibre connection to branches; Cisco and Linux based routers; iSCSI shared storage; RAID6 SSD high-demand storage; automated backups; and enterprise uninterruptible power supplies.

Developed all original websites and systems personally and worked with other developers, graphic artists, and data entry personnel as the business grew. Worked with outside suppliers to get fibre connected to our server room - the first time fibre had been deployed to a business in our region. Built servers. Installed and managed our VMware cluster and all servers. Configured Cisco and Linux routers and many smart switches. Handled search engine placement, AdWords, and other marketing. Integrated with third-party systems using XML, SOAP, JSON. Created mobile apps such as inventory management and barcode printing. 

Worked directly with our service customers on their websites and with their own technology needs. Helped customers with websites based on popular platforms such as Magento and Volusion. Integrated these with our back-end systems for fulfillment.

Experienced computer programmer with a passion for craftsmanship. I love making things that hone my existing skills or help me learn new skills. Along with my expertise in computers I have varying levels of experience and interest in business, electronics, fabrication (wood, metal, glass, plastic, textiles, etc), machine learning, search engines, big data, Internet services, psychology, assistive technology, robotics, wearables, mobile computing, and pretty much anything else involving technology or making things.

My typical day involves working in Linux, Mac OS, Windows, and iOS; programming Bash shell, Python, PHP, Objective-C, and JavaScript; experimenting with making a few strange contraptions; studying odd topics ranging from ancient history to linguistics to encryption algorithms; and then showing my kids (6, 8, 10, and 13yo) how to do absolutely everything too.

I see the world as magical and beautiful and just seek to contribute what I can and make life better for everyone.
