This role includes identifying and researching potential industrial partners, federal sponsors, and other collaborators in support of ESTD research priorities. Other aspects consist of developing strategic plans for increased research funding and helping manage programs to support that strategy through relationship building, creation and delivery of presentations, and management of events and site visits. Some of the projects I'm currently supporting include the Smoky Mountain Mobility Conference, the Appalachian Carbon Forum, ORNL Net-zero campus, ORNL Net-Zero Vision, ESGC Summit 2023, EVs@Scale Consortium, and other efforts focused on the energy transition and decarbonization in the Southeast and Appalachia.

As Account Director, I served as a strategic partner to my clients through a deep understanding of their industry and market needs, driving organic growth and securing new business opportunities for Shelton Group. Working with internal and external resources, I regularly recommended insights, identified gaps/opportunities, and offered solutions to meet specific client challenges. I then developed proposals and scopes of work for prospective clients and existing clients based on identified needs. Deliverables for our clients ranged from marketing communications plans to comprehensive ESG/sustainability reports and accompanying web pages. To ensure client needs were met on time and on budget, I managed multiple action plans and coordinated internal and external team responsibilities to ensure accountability and maintain consistent and transparent communication with the client

Account Director

As Account Supervisor, my duties included managing internal and external teams to provide clients with strategies, plans, and deliverables that help market and communicate their energy efficiency and sustainability efforts. Clients range from manufacturers to utilities to quick-service restaurants, including: Rheem, Ecolab, Legrand, Milliken, Consumers Energy, Otter Tail Power, Tampa Electric, and Papa Johns. Responsibilities included: developing and expanding client relationships (including managing expectations), recognizing and pursuing opportunities to grow revenue and pitching/selling new scopes of work, developing strategies for marketing communications efforts, project management, estimating and writing proposals, drafting budgets, creating/updating financial projections, internal team coordination, and vendor procurement.

As Senior Account Executive, my duties included working with a variety of clients to help market and communicate their energy efficiency and sustainability efforts. Clients ranged from manufacturers - Legrand, Yale Materials Handling Company and PowerSecure – to utilities – Georgia Power, Consumers Energy, BGE, Sevier County Electric System, and PECO. Responsibilities included: project management, drafting budgets, managing client relations/expectations, writing proposals, creating/updating financial projections, market research, generating status reports, and creating billing schedules.

My goal was to tell the best stories in the most compelling way. Work ranged from military and history-themed documentaries to build shows to true-crime docu-dramas. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, clear agendas, secondary and tertiary back-up plans, and the ability to simultaneously manage several crews in multiple locations across the country were instrumental in delivering successful projects. I also worked with known contacts to produce digital content for various marketing platforms.

Created and pitched story and build ideas to network executives, as well as secured celebrity guest appearances, including Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, World War Z author Max Brooks, and the 2012 U.S. Olympic gold medal shooting team. Initiated the strategic use of product integration and the incorporation of celebrity clients on the series, leading to broader audience appeal and greater industry participation. Meticulously supervised the procurement of various weaponry, artillery, and ammunition to ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.

As a staff producer at a small multimedia company, I worked alongside the owner and creative team to actively seek, secure, and deliver innovative products. My role required that I served as both a producer and an account manager to ensure the delivery of multiple projects on time and under budget. My duties involved: building client relations, budgeting, hiring and managing crews, writing proposals and scripts, directing production shoots, and collaborating with post-production teams. Clients ranged from commercial entities—Petsafe, Invisible Fence, and Clayton Homes—to academia—Union College and University of Richmond—to niche markets—MacLean Fogg, Baker Associates, and SAIC. Produced the regional Emmy Award-winning series Tennessee Shines (WBIR), which highlighted Americana-style music, and Eminem’s Relapse album release concert (MySpace Music).

At Digital Ranch, I relied upon my strong management and organizational skills to deliver military history and technology-themed shows on short deadlines and limited budgets. I collaborated with strong personalities—both on and off camera—from diverse backgrounds—military generals, celebrities, and network executives. Everyday responsibilities included: working with executive producers to develop story lines and show content; creating shoot schedules, master budgets, and shot lists; booking on-camera talent, field locations, and production crews; writing and directing episode segments and interviews; serving as a liaison with military public affairs; conducting research to ensure historical accuracy; filming b-roll; coordinating materials for CGI teams; and collaborating with editors to create cuts and final products for network delivery.

First Television

On the TV series Master Blasters (SyFy), my technical background and ability to communicate and interact with physicists, aeronautical engineers, and rocketeers was crucial for show development and production. To stay within budget, I negotiated and secured extensive product placement and integration deals with internationally recognized brands. These collaborative partnerships applied to all aspects of the series, including: CNC machines, mills, lathes, welding equipment, hand tools, build materials, and specialty hardware for the rockets. In addition to supervising product placement, my responsibilities involved: creating and writing all build challenges, booking talent and field locations, providing all set requirements, managing budgets, and overseeing the handling of high-value, federally regulated inventory. One episode involved the procurement of propulsion systems from Tomahawk cruise missiles to launch Mini Coopers through goal posts a quarter mile away.

Original Productions

For the hit TV series Monster Garage (Discovery Channel), I anticipated the needs of the build team and crew, which was vital to delivering a successful project on a six-day timeline. As builds grew more complex, it became clear that product placement and integration were necessary to supplement the individual episode budgets. Working with Discovery Communications, I negotiated contracts with independent vendors and manufacturers to utilize their materials and services in a way that did not conflict with any preexisting agreements between the corporate office and other sponsors. It was important that product placement and integration occurred organically, so as not to alter the look and feel of the show. My responsibilities included: casting and booking talent, pitching episode ideas, researching all technical aspects of the builds, coordinating field shoots, conducting on-camera interviews, researching archival footage, and maintaining detailed budgets. My strong technical background and understanding of aeronautics proved to be extremely valuable in the season five two-hour finale, which showcased a $100K Panoz Esperante transforming into a flying car. This episode was featured on the cover of Popular Mechanics and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

For Hip-Hop Justice, a television special (TruTV) that investigated racial profiling of the hip-hop community by law enforcement, my responsibilities were to provide creative support and extensive logistical coordination for the director. This entailed booking and scheduling several celebrity and high-profile guests, including Russel Simmons, Ice-T, and former Los Angeles Chief of Police William Bratton. Being able to adjust and adapt quickly to changing scenarios while maintaining composure was crucial to the success of this program, as schedules and locations constantly fluxed due to the sensitive nature of the subject matter. The ability to interact with a variety of strong personalities and elicit positive results was extremely necessary to gather the proper footage needed to tell a compelling and accurate story.

As a segment producer on Discovery Channel’s Rocket Challenge, it was my job to develop stories, write scripts, and produce content that highlighted the personalities and events surrounding the hobby of high-powered amateur rocketry. Filmed on location in Argonia, Kansas, the series followed a number of characters during the annual week-long Large Dangerous Rocket-Ships launch. I negotiated product integration deals in order to maximize the production budget. Additional responsibilities included: managing project deliverables, scheduling crews, maintaining production budget, securing all legal releases, and overseeing the editing process.

My main objective for Line on Design was to pitch and secure a major product integration deal for an apartment makeover segment to be done by Roy Christopher, a well-known set designer for hit shows such as Murphy Brown and Frasier. Since the episode’s theme was innovation and efficiency, I contacted sources at Ikea and negotiated a deal that granted the show cart blanche at a local store and a tour of the factory, as well as usage of materials for a segment on the future of flat-pack design and construction. My other duties on the show included: scheduling, budgeting, coordinating operational and logistical details, and supporting the celebrity host, Dana Delaney.
