Most leaders we talk with struggle to get a deep and comprehensive understanding of what the biggest problems are. In every engineering org, there are a lot of problems and a lot of loud voices. In a perfect world, developer productivity teams know exactly where the biggest productivity problems are AND be able to communicate to the rest of the business through concrete metrics. A lot of companies have set up the DORA metrics but found that they only provide high-level signals— leaving them asking “So now what?”. Some teams also try surveys, but give up after a couple of attempts due to the effort required and poor results. It's a complicated problem— one that DX is specifically designed by the researchers behind DORA and SPACE to solve.
