An interview I had with Brian Burns at Brutal Truth About Sales https://youtu.be/WFVvmmaLOSM Recently the Patriots’ McCourty twins spoke about how they redefine success. They thought if they make it to the NFL, that’s success. They made it, but quickly said “I want to be a starter”, then it was, “I want to win a Superbowl” & the bar continued to move for “success”. I think everyone goes thru similar thoughts & stages in their life redefining what success is. With 25+ years in sales which started by convincing total strangers to let me into their house with a bag of Cutco knives, to selling Cyber Security to F500 companies, I have enjoyed much success, even being the #1 rep several times over my career. I’ve stood in front of hostile audiences performing Stand-Up Comedy & presented to Executives in the F50, as well as been a key note speaker at Fenway Park, Gillette Stadium & Boston Garden. While all of this is great & I’m very appreciative of all my God-given skills & accomplishments, I realize this is not what defines success for me. So what drives me? My main motivation is trying my best to do the right thing & to help others. Professionally: Helping my clients improve their Security posture. Personally: Trying to help others answer life’s most important questions and supporting hundreds of orphans and widows in Africa and India. Accomplished lawyer & author Bob Goff said, “I consider myself a professional fund raiser.” I feel the same way & that’s why I love Cyber Security Sales. This career has given me the ability to do things financially that I would never have been able to do elsewhere, and that continues to drive me to work hard and be the best in my field/company. Money, titles & accomplishments are nice, but they don’t scratch the surface when it comes to what is important in life. Supporting charitable organizations, going on missionary trips to India & supporting hundreds of orphans and people who don’t have the means to support themselves, are what I consider to be success in my life.
