About 5 months ago I packed up all my things & moved to Medellín, Colombia.

This kind of remote work has been a goal of mine since I first saw videos of the first wave of paid ads gurus on facebook almost a decade ago, flaunting their Lamborghinis & villas in Bali.

The dream? To work remotely, be my own boss, and set my own schedule. The reality though was much different than I thought it would be.

Any entrepreneur who’s even had a sliver of success will tell you the journey is a slow, often brutal grind. You will work longer hours than your peers, endure more stress & sometimes you will forget what you are working for. It’s one thing to understand this concept - it’s another to endure it.

Here’s the highlights (& ‘lowlights’) from the past year and a half:
🔹 The Sacrifices:
- No salary during our first business year
- Moved away from my friends and lived with my mom to cut costs
- Completely drained my savings
- Almost zero days off for 18 months

🔹 The Gains:
- Teamed up with an incredible co-founder, Roshan Kathir
- Made lifelong friends globally, including Austin Reed who inspired my move to Medellin
- Developed a newfound level of discipline & work ethic I did not know I had
- Attracted fantastic clients making a real impact in their businesses

Now, nearly half a year into being a digital nomad, our business is thriving, and we're blessed with an amazing team.

This post isn't about bragging or complaining but expressing gratitude and sharing the unpolished truth of entrepreneurship. Yes, it's tough, often thankless & all the progress you made could be taken away at any moment.

But at the end of the day it’s war of attrition, so finding ways to celebrate & find gratitude in the day to day makes the journey worth it. 📝

If you are not having success with outbound it is for one of 3 reasons.

1. Deliverability: All outbound channels are getting saturated & as a result, more and more barriers are being put in place to reduce spam & mass outreach in general. If you are trying to run high volume systems - either hire someone to do it or be prepared to make it your full time job for a while to learn.

2. Value prop/offer: The easiest one to spin your wheels on - answer the question 'We help {{audience}}..." as many ways as possible. This does not mean 'say the same thing in a bunch of different ways.'

If we were to do this for Clay it could look like, "We help RevOps & Growth teams..."
-go from campaign idea to outreach in minutes (speed)
-enrich their contacts with over 75+ data providers (quality)
-get access to 75+ data providers for the price of one (cost)
-write hyper-personalized emails with AI (features)
-replace the need for manual account research (convenience)

Obviously Clay does not need my help with their marketing but this is an especially important frame of thinking if you are in a commoditized market like lead gen, ad buying, recruiting, CRMs, etc. 

If you are not a huge brand, your offer has to be a no brainer - meaning it solves a very specific & painful problem or has basically no risk for the client to try you out.

3. Targeting: If I have a way to guarantee 2x quota attainment for your sales team but am emailing HR directors, results won't be so hot. Spend more time than you think you need to defining your ICP(s), pay for accurate data & be prepared to make adjustments as you go. All lead databases have their share of inaccuracies, you'll have to tweak your list building as you get more feedback from the market.

Deliverability is the most important of the 3 (for cold email especially) but I see the offer/value prop as the most overlooked.
