Why do large companies have a General Counsel? The GC is a member of the leadership team that looks forward, helping the business to proactively plan for what's to come in light of where it's been and where it is today -- and in light of its risk profile and risk tolerance. They handle the tactical and the strategic. Most smaller companies don't have access to a GC but they need one as much as a large company does.
