There's a hierarchy to tech touch that most companies ignore - and it's why their automation fails.

I've been doing customer success assessments for years now, and I keep seeing the same pattern. Smart teams with good intentions invest heavily in automation tools, build detailed playbooks, then scratch their heads when the results don't match the promise.

The issue isn't the tools or the strategy. It's their order of operations.

Here’s how that should look like:

Level 1: 
Data Accessibility You need a data lake or reliable way to access customer behavior data. No shortcuts here. If you can't see what customers are doing, you're flying blind.

Level 2: 
Data Structure Raw data is useless. It needs to be clean, organized, and actionable. Without usable data or structured data, you cannot create triggers or you will have very inefficient triggers.

Level 3: 
Automation & Triggers Now you can build playbooks, automated responses, and smart triggers. This is where everyone starts - and why most tech touch programs feel broken.

Most teams I assess jump straight to Level 3. They're obsessed with the sexy automation tools while their data foundation crumbles underneath.

Start at the bottom. 
Build up methodically.

Strong automation starts with strong data.
