My name is Mihir Lele. I am a new graduate from UC Davis with a B.S. in Computational Cognitive Science and a minor in Economics. My studies have given me an interest in software engineering and years of experience in programming, including data structures in C and OOP in Python, C++, and Java. For my AI class, I implemented data structures such as priority queue and hash map in Java to implement an A* search algorithm to calculate lowest cost path using Chebyshev distance down a mountain of variable size. For my Machine Learning class, I worked on a group project to create a model that finds correlations between poverty rate, crime, and incarceration rates by state using k-means clustering. As part of the QA team, I was in charge of choosing the correct algorithm for analysis and ensuring that the data sets were properly prepared. Because my major did not offer a course in data science, I took it upon myself to take a SQL course on Coursera, for which I learned to perform data aggregation and data analytics to assess data sets using SQLite. For my final project in this course, I profiled and analyzed a data set of 10,000 Yelp reviews of businesses across large American cities to find correlations between quality and popularity. As a research assistant for the Ferreira Lab at UC Davis, I used customer service skills to ensure participant safety for language processing experiments in the lab. I also collected and organized participant data using Excel. As a research intern for UChicago, I self-learned XMALab and Autodesk Maya to reconstruct jaw movement of monkeys as 3D animated models for an anatomy lab and sorted neural data from hundreds of electrodes for a neuroscience lab. As a lifeguard, I used customer service skills to assist patrons in following safety guidelines and used efficient communication in a fast-paced environment to ensure safety of swimmers. I also founded and managed social media for Philosophy Club at Tesla STEM High School, gaining a following of over 20 members in one year, where I formed excellent leadership and public speaking skills. During the pandemic, I volunteered for local non-profit as a math tutor for children grades K-9. My work and volunteer experiences have given me the opportunity to build skills such as quick learning, communication, organization, and initiative, which I bring to every job I have had.
