This week, I attended the annual EBRD Nominee Director Board Practice Conference in #London, an event where I joined over 100 professionals from the world of banking, governance, investing and entrepreneurship. I was in great company, with Vargha Moayed, the chair of Endeavor Romania. 

The theme of the year’s event was the evolving role of the board director in a world that’s shifting rapidly. As highlighted by Tina Fordham’s powerful keynote speech, we're navigating a geopolitical super-cycle and an era of “never going back to normal”, amid global turbulences. While we can’t control the forces that inevitably shape our world, we still control the way we choose to respond to their consequences. 

These changes impact all actors of the global economy, and perhaps the strongest pressure is on expanding startups - as they evolve quickly, they need to tailor their governance in such a way that their decision-making capacity is swift, effective, and remains grounded in best practices. 

The gathering was yet another proof that EBRD is a paragon of soft power at work and a beacon of governance and stability in a multi-polar world. 

Congratulations to Justin Robertson and Dirk Werner for creating such a rich forum of debate and valuable exchanges, grooming a community of like-minded professionals, keen to engage together, share their experiences and have a lasting impact.
 
And...I could not escape a feeling of melancholy as I met a lot of former friends and colleagues at the Bank. They are doing such an incredibly important work, building and supporting resilient, well-governed businesses in uncertain times.
