I worked in a project for editing and publishing previously unpublished medieval manorial accounts from southwestern Finland. The handwritten accounts from the late 15th and early 16th century are an important but rarely used source for premodern social and economic history. The project is still  work-in-progress.

Researcher and writer for corporate histories. I wrote a book for the association of retailers and wholesalers in hardware, building material and DIY branches.  In addition, I edited and updated the online history of a global group in paper industry.

These two projects gave me the immediate nudge to leave the past and enter the future: I started to dream about a new career in the business instead of a permanent position at a history department of some university.

Researcher in several projects financed by the Academy of Finland. These years were mostly spent in close reading and qualitative analysis of medieval historiography and other narrative texts, writing research papers and lecturing.

National Archives of Finland

We built Diplomatarium Fennicum, a public online database (http://extranet.narc.fi/DF/df.php) of medieval Finnish documents. The database was based on previously published documents that had were scanned, proofread and transformed into a FileMaker database.

Keywords: database management, data entry, medieval studies, diplomatics, open access.

Researcher | Project for online publication of medieval documents

As a result of this two year project at the University of Helsinki, I finished my licentiate's thesis on the chronicle written by John of Winterthur (d. 1348) as a case study of late medieval Franciscan historiography written in the German provinces of the order.  The thesis is written in Finnish and it is - and most probably will remain - unpublished.
