After working freelance as a lead generation expert and sales consultant for 5 years, I can safely say that I’ve seen a lot. Countless startups in all kinds of different industries have taught me a couple of lessons in entrepreneurship that ultimately helped me build my own company. Here are some key takeaways that I’ve managed to gather over the years: 1. It’s not about what you can do, but who’s doing it The team that you have around you might be one of the most important resources that you can have when you’re just starting. These first employees don't necessarily have to be industry experts; the most important attribute that any of them need to have is the drive to build something for themselves. 2. Always overdeliver You are the underdog - you have everything to prove. In today's market, there are alternatives for any single product and service in existence. You have to make sure that you’re giving your clients more than you originally promised them. Only then will you be the best choice among hundreds of other competitors. 3. Don’t lose focus When things get rolling, we tend to immediately focus on how great everything that we’re doing leads us into direct tunnel vision. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t celebrate your success; you absolutely should. But if we’re learning from our failures, we should also be learning from our wins. There is always room for improvement.
