I like using technology to help simplify people's problems in travel. When I was 15, my biggest dream was to work in Human Factor Design. Along the way, I realised an academic pathway via a PhD did not excite me and started exploring options in other subjects that gave me joy - like travel. I had worked as a summer camp instructor for young adults, a business development intern for a travel startup and had started a homegrown business selling silk saris, before I applied for a scholarship to study Tourism Management in the UK. In 2 years I had: - Attended a summer school in China, a profound experience in learning about culture and management - Worked in a digital agency, developing proof of concepts for retail and tourism, using sensors and beacons - Led a project funded by England’s National Coastal Tourism Academy in developing Smart Cities as Smart Destinations, and presented my research in the UK, Indonesia & Malaysia After my graduation, I worked at GetYourGuide as Destination Manager for India and Nepal. My key role was to manage the entire sales funnel of tours and activities in these markets, and no two days were ever alike. One day I was co-creating new ways to experience the Taj Mahal with my supplier, and on another, I was scouting new leads on the streets of Kathmandu. In less than a year: - I helped establish the company’s presence in 17 new locations - Established an average quarterly growth of 435% (India) and 480% (Nepal) YoY - Managed approximately 35 accounts and built a network of tour operators in the region. Currently, I work at Holibob as the Production team's handyman - I manage onboarding new clients, project management, marketing reporting and operations - everything that's needed to ensure the success of a client. I also spend my time learning, cooking, taking photographs and stopping to talk to every dog I encounter. The best part of working in travel is in knowing I may have just helped someone have a deeply personal dream come true. I am at my happiest engaging with people and solving problems.
