BIG PROBLEMS RARELY ARRIVE ALL AT ONCE.



They sneak in quietly, disguised as small, harmless requests.

Like the old story of the camel and the tent. 

Where a kind master allowed “just the nose” inside, then the head, then the legs… until finally, the camel filled the tent and pushed the master out into the cold.

The lesson isn’t about camels. It’s about boundaries.

Every “just this once” and every reluctant 'yes' chips away at our space, our priorities, and our well-being. 

One compromise rarely hurts. But repeated over time, they leave us crowded out of the very life we were trying to protect.

Wisdom is knowing that saying “no” doesn’t make you unkind. It makes you clear.

It’s choosing to guard what truly matters. Your values, your time, your peace. So you don’t wake up one day and find there’s no room left for you.

All-time great Tennis legend, Martina Navratilova, was once asked, “How do you maintain your focus, physique and sharp game even at the age of 43?"

She gave a humble reply, “The ball doesn’t know how old I am”. 

You need to stop yourself from stopping yourself. 
Every game in life is actually played on a 6-inch ground – the space between your two ears. 

We don't live in bungalows, duplexes or flats. 
We live in our mind, which is an unlimited area. Life is great when things are sorted and uncluttered there.

Keeping the mind messy with hatred growing on the table, regrets piling up in the corner, expectations boiling in the kitchen, secrets stuffed under the carpet and worries littered everywhere ruins this real home.  

The key factor to performing well in life and in every arena is the ability to control the quality and quantity of your “internal dialogue”. 

Performance is potential minus internal interference.

A LEADER SHOULD KNOW HOW TO MANAGE FAILURE.



As narrated by India's former President A P J Abdul Kalamji :

In 1973, I became the project director of India's satellite launch vehicle program, commonly called the SLV-3, in the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Our goal was to put India's "Rohini" satellite into orbit by 1980. Thousands of people worked together in scientific and technical teams towards that goal.

By 1979, we thought we were ready. Four minutes before the satellite launch, the computer began to go through the checklist of items that needed to be checked. 

One minute later, the computer program put the launch on hold; the display showed that some control components were not in order. My experts, I had four or five of them with me, told me not to worry; they had done their calculations and there was enough reserve fuel. 

So I bypassed the computer, switched to manual mode, and launched the rocket. In the first stage, everything worked fine. In the second stage, a problem developed. Instead of the satellite going into orbit, the whole rocket system plunged into the Bay of Bengal. It was a big failure.

That day, the chairman of the ISRO, Prof. Satish Dhawan, had called a press conference. The launch was at 7:00 am, and the press conference, where journalists from around the world were present, was at 7:45 am.  

Prof. Dhawan, the leader of the organisation, conducted the press conference himself. He took responsibility for the failure. He said that the team had worked very hard, but that it needed more technological support. He assured the media that in another year, the team would definitely succeed. 

Now, I was the project director, and it was my failure, but instead, he took responsibility for the failure as chairman of the organisation.

The next year, in July 1980, we tried again to launch the satellite – and this time we succeeded. The whole nation was jubilant. Again, there was a press conference. 

Prof. Dhawan called me aside and told me, "You conduct the press conference today."

I learned a very important lesson that day. 

When failure occurred, the leader of the organisation owned that failure. 

When success came, he gave it to his team. The best management lesson I have learned did not come to me from reading a book; it came from that experience.

WHAT IF THE FUTURE OF FINANCE IS HIDDEN IN OUR PAST?



Centuries before modern banking, Indian merchants had already mastered the art of seamless payments and cross-border trust. 

Their tool? The Hundi, aka adesha.

An adesha (translates to 'an order' or 'instruction') was essentially a bill of exchange that allowed a merchant to deposit money with a financier (shroff) in one city and receive a note that could be exchanged for cash from another financier in a distant city.

A Hundi was not just a slip of paper. It was a system of trust, credit, and remittance that allowed a trader in one city to deposit funds with a financier (shroff) and receive a note redeemable in another city. Sometimes hundreds of miles away.

In a world without wire transfers, clearinghouses, or fintech apps, the Hundi became the lifeline of commerce. It protected merchants from the dangers of carrying metal coins across treacherous routes, accelerated trade, and bound together India’s vast markets. 

Some historians trace its roots as far back as the Mauryan era (c. 322 BCE), over 2,300 years ago.

Why does this matter today?

Because the essence of innovation hasn’t changed. The Hundi was not a product of technology, but of imagination. Merchants looked at a real pain. Risk, inefficiency, slowness. And created a solution rooted in trust and collective participation.

Fast forward to today, and the same principle applies. 

Whether it’s blockchain, AI-driven finance, or digital payments, true innovation begins not with tools, but with the courage to reimagine how trust, value, and relationships flow.

The wisdom of the Hundi reminds us:
The best solutions are simple yet transformative.
Trust is the ultimate currency.

Innovation is not about new gadgets, but new ways of seeing.
As leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators, perhaps we don’t need to chase the next shiny thing. 

Instead, we need to ask: What problem needs solving? And how can trust be redefined to solve it?
