Sigrun

Sigrun is a prominent business coach and mentor from Iceland with a large European audience. As Growth Marketer, my role was to increase organic leads. I did this by experimenting with a number of tactics involving podcasting, funnel creation and automation, email marketing, and social selling.

Out of all the tactics we used on Team Sigrun, the one that paid off the most, was the LinkedIn lead generarion system I developed. 

Here are some of the results:

My first entrepreneurial venture was a retreat centre and community development project in Sri Lanka.

Three months after we'd finished renovating and opened it to the public, the pandemic hit and forced my fellow founder and I to return to our home countries.

I thought I'd go back to reopen, but prolonged lockdowns and heavy restrictions made that increasingly unlikely.

I recently stumbled upon our mission statement:

"To create a scalable and replicable sustainable development model that enables local communities to harness and benefit from the surf and yoga tourist industries, while also advancing in a climate-conscious manner.

We envision a world where all people find sustainable, holistic peacefulness through yoga, vegan food, and nature via surfing.

As young women, we intended the Uhana Collective to inspire girls and women globally to overcome gender barriers and achieve their aspirations.

By fostering an environment of surfing, yoga, and healing, we aimed to empower our clients to better their lifestyles and grasp the importance of global environmental action.”

Reading it still makes me nostalgic.

Six months after returning home, I had no choice but to let go, close the centre we'd renovated, and pivot back to my marketing career in Europe.

If you'd asked me three years ago where I'd be today as I sat in my old room in my Dad's house, midway through the pandemic, crying as I said my final farewell to the Sri Lanka Project... 

I would have said something along the lines of "advancing my career, managing a team, and making bank."

I never thought I'd have the life I live now.

I've made my own career. 
Manage a team, for my own business. 
And I'm making more bank than Molly 3 years ago would have ever believed possible.

I hope my story shows that just because something was once your dream, doesn’t mean you have to chase it forever. Choosing to let Sri Lanka go was one of the best decisions I ever made, even though it didn’t feel like it at the time.

If your competitor is killing it

Most people come to me all disheartened because someone else is doing it better than them.

Most people treat LinkedIn like it’s Instagram or TikTok.

On those platforms the rule is simple: post more, get seen more.

The algorithm is hungry for volume. 

It rewards frequency, because fresh content gives it more data points to push into feeds. 

That’s why you hear things like “post three times a day on TikTok.”

It works there. 

Volume creates velocity, and velocity triggers reach.

But LinkedIn is completely different on so many levels.

Here, the algorithm is built to slow things down. 

To reward relevance, expertise, and trusted interactions. 

Post too much and you don’t look credible, you look noisy.

I made $20k over the weekend without posting a single thing because I have:

→ Content that positions me as the obvious choice

→ Authority assets that do the heavy lifting

→ A sales process that keeps moving while I’m offline

Instagram and TikTok reward noise (a lot of it).

LinkedIn rewards trust.

You don’t win here by feeding the algorithm.

You win by building positioning and systems that make buyers come to you.

If nobody takes you seriously

(this is how you position yourself as the obvious choice).

If you’re posting every day and still feel invisible, it’s not because you’re lazy or inconsistent.

It’s because posting alone isn't enough on LinkedIn anymore.

In 2025, the algorithm prioritises:

→ Dwell time (aka, how long people sit with your content)

→ Depth of comments (are people adding thoughts or just leaving non-engaging emoji comments)

→ First-degree engagement (your network seeing you and caring, not randoms scrolling past)

 → Trust signals (authority content that proves you know what you’re talking about)

That’s why you see others posting less, but being taken more seriously. 

Posting daily and hoping to go viral is giving LinkedIn 2023 energy.

This is how you optimise for how LinkedIn actually works today ↓

1. Stop trying to out-post the algorithm.

2. Start positioning yourself so buyers can’t ignore you.

I got paid then went to the beach with my friends.

I forgot the bag of leaflets when we left. 

Didn’t hand out a single one.

I was 15.


Thankfully LinkedIn saved me from ever working one of those jobs again. 

In 2025 the fastest way out of jobs you hate isn’t a CV.

During lockdown, Sarah was CFO in a fast-paced fintech startup.

On paper, she was successful. 

In reality, she was exhausted.

She’d spend her evenings and weekends building an online yoga membership.

But no matter how hard she pushed, sign-ups barely moved.

Her job drained her, 

her side hustle wasn’t paying off, 

and she was stuck in the cycle so many ambitious women know:

 → Too busy to grow the business.
 → Too underpaid to quit the job.

So we stopped chasing enrolments that weren’t coming.

We honed in on an offer designed to sell.

And then we marketed it ... the right way.

Sarah created, launched, and SOLD OUT her offer in a matter of weeks.

The real problem wasn’t her job or even her idea.

Now that the launch is finally over, I can spill the tea.

I had to fire someone in my busiest month of the year.

That meant mid-way through this launch I was an employee down.

And it was my first one as a new mum.

(I was literally spacing out sales calls to nurse the baby).

A week in, I realised I couldn’t keep doing it all: my job, their job, and the launch itself. 

Something had to give.

So I removed Instagram (13k followers) and TikTok (6k followers) from the equation. 

I hired a designer to repurpose my LinkedIn posts for Instagram and schedule them. 

Then deleted both apps from my phone for the entire launch. 

I chose to compromise this way for two reasons: 

1. They were a distraction

↱ I knew if I tried to do everything, I’d do nothing well. So I focused on one platform… LinkedIn.

2. My mental health

↱ Instagram drains me, it’s noisy, performative, and makes me question whether I’m doing enough.

When I stopped trying to be everywhere, everything shifted. 

I went from feeling overwhelmed and incapable to feeling totally unstoppable. 

I gave 1000% to LinkedIn. 

It delivered. 

This new mum just had her first ever $100k launch. 

Everyone except one referral was an inbound lead from LinkedIn.

If you needed a sign to stop trying to do it all, this is it.

Master one platform, then let it work for you.

The biggest lie on the internet is that it’s hard to launch.

It’s not, it’s easy. 

If you have a no-brainer offer the hard part isn’t getting people interested.

It’s keeping momentum once they are.

Everyone loves the buzz of day one.

Comments coming.

DMs on fire.

Your content doing its job.

But by week two you start to drop the ball.

Follow-ups slow down, 

Leads cool off.

The launch energy fades.

That’s not because the offer’s wrong, if it was then you wouldn’t have had the buzz to begin with. 

It’s because the system behind the offer isn’t built for scale.

You burnout before you finish launching because you’re doing everything yourself. 

The leaders who sell out don’t just rely on their content.

They run a process.

→ Every conversation tracked (we use folk  because it is literally built for LinkedIn lead gen) 

→ Every next step clear

→ Every lead moved forward without them having to micromanage

That’s how you run your business like a CEO, not a side project you resent.

If you’re still commenting under competitors’ posts

(and relying on them for your clients)

This is how you create your own ecosystem of inbound leads instead of relying on theirs.

Someone recently piggy-backed off my launch.

Not the content.

Not the funnel.

The audience.

The same people who joined my free event.

The leads I spent weeks nurturing.

I see why she did this, the offer that followed that free event made 6-figures and sold out. 

She saw the traction and she saw it was working.

And while she’ll probably get a few sign-ups, she’s collecting scraps from a system she doesn’t understand.

Because I’m not reacting to the market.

I am the market.

I built the ecosystem.

She’s trying to survive inside it.

Inbound marketing isn’t about chasing trends or riding someone else’s coattails.

→ It’s about owning your traffic source.

→ Creating demand instead of borrowing it.

→ Becoming the person others have to orbit around.

Reach out if you want to stop chasing other people’s clients, and start attracting your own.

I once threw champagne all over the Prince of Monaco.

Burst into tears.

Ran away.

And hid, genuinely mortified.

My career was over.

How could I be the hostess I wanted to be if I couldn’t even carry a tray of champagne?

To be fair, the tray was enormous. 

The second the prince took his glass, the whole thing tipped and landed on him.

→ If you’ve ever been fired.

→ If a client told you you weren’t good enough.

→ If you’ve been trolled under a post you poured your heart into.

You know this feeling.

That heavy, sticky voice saying

“I’m not good enough.”

And if you’ve been sitting in the woe-is-me-void for a while.

After the world knocked you down.

And you haven’t found your way back up yet.

I got you.
