Coaching and Career Development Unit Manager

As a training manager in the Office of Professional Development (OPD) I work in collaboration to:
•	Assist in the development, recommendation, and implementation of OPD short- and long-term goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
•	Monitor, evaluate and advise course training effectiveness for changes required for improvement.
•	Analyze course evaluations to assess effectiveness and recommend opportunities for course improvements and additional training courses.
•	Assign and track staff workload and provide timely and effective feedback.
•	Facilitate team, management, and executive leadership meetings, retreats, and focus groups.
•	Provide career counseling for the DOJ Upward Mobility Program.
•	Provide 1-1 leadership and career coaching to DOJ staff.

•	Utilize learning management systems such as Blackboard, and eLearning (D2L) for online discussions, grading, assignment submission, assessments, videos, and email.

•	Monitor and encourage a diversity of perspectives, equity and cultural competency in the classroom and campus environment.  
•	Mentor students in business; encourage S.M.A.R.T. goal-setting and strategic planning.

•	Understand operational and learning characteristics of adult community education. 
•	Monitor and encourage a diversity of perspectives, equality and cultural competency in online group discussion and live broadcast platforms.

CalHr Certified Facilitator and California Lean White Belt Certified.  Lean is a systematic method to minimize waste in a process; address all forms of waste, including defects to improve value to customers. 
Responsibilities:
•Facilitate business process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, 5 Why’s, Process Mapping, Spaghetti Mapping, 5S, Standard Work, and A3 tool to help units increase customer value and process efficiency.
•Conduct department training programs as facilitator using various instructional methods such as lecture, webinar, guided discussion, brainstorming, group problem solving, and modeling.
•Act as resource to and consult with Department managers and supervisors on special projects to identify training needs, program objectives and evaluation of project results using training techniques such as  problem solving, performance analysis, team building, group conferences, and oral presentation.
•Prepare training usage reports, consulting with other Departmental personnel in developing and designing training curriculum.
•Design, conduct, and analyze training needs surveys for the Department’s training program.
•Research laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to select appropriate course content; develop course outlines by coordinating with Department’s management and other EDD University training consultants.
•Prepare training objectives; select instructional methodology such as classroom or web-based learning; devise training aids such as handouts, exercises, role plays, case studies, group and individual work projects, videos.
•Prepare written instructor and trainee guides in coordination with other training consultants in EDD University.
•Develop evaluation methods to determine that training meets objectives; analyze programs and work with management to update training to meet changes and improve results of the learning process.
