Bad leadership!

There’s just too much of it. 

That I continue to hear stories of good people leaving their job as a result is beyond me. 

I can’t understand why business owners let these leadership egos hurt their business. 

As a leader you NEED to
+ Have empathy 
+ Show vulnerability 
+ Be open and curious 
+ Care deeply for your people

This does NOT mean you can’t 
→ Expect efforts
→ Set accountability 
→ Have high standards 
→ Deliver strong results 

Leading with empathy does not make you a weak leader. Not even close. 

But more importantly;

As a leader,

It’s not about you.

Starting a new quarter can be mentality tough.

Maybe you where far off target and enter the new Q with no pipeline
Maybe you overachieved Q1 and now have an empty pipeline
Maybe you just fell short of Q1 and have an empty pipeline

The challenge remains the same.

The best cure to beat the mental challenge of entering a new Q is a healthy pipeline. 

Sounds so easy and yet hard to do.

The goal for all is to change from “have an empty pipeline” → “have a strong healthy pipeline”

→ Always be prospecting
→ Create an annual territory plan
→ Ask your manager for guidance
→ Engage with peers internal and external
→ Know you pipeline metrics and numbers (crucial part)
→ Detach from the pipeline focus and have fun (easy said)
→ Experiment with your own market and performance analysis

That leadership in sales are completely lost

Fortunately there are exceptions too.

We eventually all face the same leadership challenges 

→ A freshly promoted manager? 
→ An experienced executive? 
→ An aspiring leader?

👉🏼 it won’t be a clear cut road to success for everyone you manage. 

You will face:
— Terminations
— 121 going south
— Unsuccessful coaching 
— Difficult performance reviews 
— Pushing for more, despite unreasonable targets

You hear about all of the success stories. 

↳ The great new hires smashing it. 
↳ The amazing from zero to hero promotions.

But the thing is. They are just a fraction of the full story for any leader.

Behind all success stories, there are just as many failures.

It goes for all of us.

Approach your leadership with 
+ Integrity 
+ Humility
+ Empathy 
+ Curiosity 
+ Kindness

It won’t solve the challenges you will face. But it will make it a better experience. For the people on both sides of the table.

"Failure" as a leader does not mean you are bad at it. 

It means you are learning and growing

Here's one of the hardest but most important things to learn in sales 👇🏼 

Knowing when to walk away from a deal that's not a fit

It can be tempting to keep chasing prospects even when you know it's not a good fit for your product or service. 

But wasting time on dead ends only leads to a false positive pipeline 

That won't help you.

It's crucial to know your ICP and be willing to 'kill your darlings' - those deals that aren't aligned with your target market.

Your time and resources are the most valuable assets you have. 

Focusing on the right opportunities will lead to better results in the end. 

So, don't be afraid to walk away from a deal that's not a fit. 

It could benefit you, your business and not to forget the prospect. 

When have you walked away from a deal?

Feel the need to have an answer for any questions immediately 

Elite leaders are not afraid to say: 

“I don’t know”

The worst will:

Blindly trust ChatGPT to be their savior

No one has the answer for everything. 

Few of us have the confidence to admit it.

If you are a sales leader who is not prospecting yourself 

My guess is,

You need get going, or you won’t be around for much longer.

Remember this;

→ You don't have to be perfect
→ You don't need to handle all objections
→ You don't have to ask the best questions
→ You don't have to show better results than others
→ You don't have to be on the top of the activity board

You just have to show up ✌🏼

I was unable to answer a simple question on a podcast this week.

"How do you use ChatGPT in your day-to-day?"

Truth is, I should do it more.

Keep up with it.
Take advantage of it.
Optimize wherever possible.

I only use it for LinkedIn post iteration prompts 🤦🏼‍♂️

Embarrassing.

And now I see why I should prioritize it more.
