As a sociologist, I'm an expert in figuring out what questions to ask, how to ask them, what information we need to answer them, and then sharing that answer to a wide range of audiences. My expertise is in qualitative and mixed-methods research. I have worked as an independent investigator, project manager, and, most recently, as the head of my own social science research group, where I manage a team of researchers. The work I find most fascinating is when I can look at the short- and long-term impact of what seems like a 'well-intended' solution. This could be a new medical practice, a new public policy, adapting a tool or technique to a new context, or even taking something away that feels no longer useful. Much of my work experience has focused on how people think about themselves and their wants, needs, and imagined futures in relation to institutional practices, like how doctors treat patients or how scientists collect data.
