I'm currently a trainer in the healthcare and insurance industry. I design and lead systems training throughout new hire onboarding. 

I worked for three years as an Instructional Designer, overseeing the design, delivery, SME support, and project management for corporate and engineering courses. I also collaborate with SMEs on everything from course design and curriculum to content and delivery. I used tools such as Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia, Synthesia, and Elucidat to create learner-centered content on various LMS platforms. 

I have also accrued more than a decade of managerial experience recruiting, onboarding, training, and overseeing a large public-facing staff (50+) that served thousands of diverse stakeholders; I also have more than a decade of experience designing and implementing a variety of collaborative, longitudinal educational projects while overseeing my unit's daily operations, which included 7,000+ scheduled contact hours each year.I have onboarded, trained, and mentored nearly 300 undergraduate, graduate, and professional writing tutors, and I have also mentored seven assistant directors, five of whom now direct their own Writing Centers (or now have WC-adjacent careers). 

Since 2011, I have designed and delivered more than 300 workshops on a variety of topics for students, faculty, and staff, serving more than 35,000 clients. I have also helped students and faculty win more than $350,000 in grants, scholarships, and other awards. I get scammy "recruiter" emails almost every day. 

They're mostly written by AI, and they almost all start with a mediocre summary of my experience but offer minimal concrete information about roles. 

As Jan points out, fake domains and Gmail addresses are a dead giveaway.

In addition to instruction and collaboration, my specialty is client acquisition, customer service, and staff training.

I've been writing all week about authenticity on LinkedIn. 

Let me just say: I am supremely jealous of everyone who has commented that they feel like themselves at work and on this platform.

I decidedly do not.

Being "myself" in professional settings has resulted in far more grief than gratitude over the years.

Here are just a few of the things that have happened when I've been "myself": 
✅ I had columns pulled from newspapers I've worked for because they were critical of advertisers
✅ I had my graduate assistantship threatened when I wrote about the benefits of graduate students unionizing
✅ I was told to "be careful" when I questioned a former employer's disregard for Covid protocols and student safety
✅ I was called "political" by one employer when I questioned layoffs resulting from the elimination of DEI programs and offices that clearly benefited students, faculty, and staff
✅ Over and over again, I've been told not to ask so many questions, not to criticize authority, and to obsequiously do my job

But asking questions and advocating for others is who I am (or whom I want to be, at least). The same goes for questioning things that don't make sense or wanting decisions to be based on what's right rather than what's most profitable or expedient.

These qualities have never been advantageous.
And I've spent most of my life searching for spaces where being myself is seen as an asset rather than a liability.

If you put any stock in vanity metrics, I'll highlight the following:

✅ Nearly 30K reactions, 4K+ comments, 1K+ reposts, and nearly 30K saves
✅ Nearly 30K new followers

I can still remember only a few years ago when I was lucky if a post garnered 1,000 impressions. 

These numbers have climbed every year. Consistency and steady growth are always the path.
