In the case of Azlo (NEXU), one aspect that garnered significant attention in the fintech ecosystem was the rapid operational ramp-up leading to the launch of a fully functional lending system. This was achieved in a record time of only 90 days, which included adopting a novel IT infrastructure and integrating a newly hired international team working remotely during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this role, I gained substantial knowledge about process digitalisation, workflow management, and the intricacies of online lending. My collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders and cross-functional teams was pivotal in establishing initial operations for launching the business in Madrid. This groundwork included setting up the Call Center, Collections team, CRM, and overarching customer communications technology.

This project entailed launching lending operations in Spain 'from scratch' for an international investor, facing the significant challenge of gaining approval to operate within the Madrid subway system (METRO), which required adherence to complex safety compliance standards.

We achieved a notable milestone by transitioning from the company's establishment to funding its first loan in just eighty days, establishing a complete operational framework capable of servicing customers with cash loans in Metro Madrid. This accomplishment was made possible thanks to an incredible team of 22 spanning various departments, including IT, compliance, marketing, and legal.

In this project, we revamped operations with a focus on collections, which were at a critical stage. At a high level, action areas involved ensuring a reasonable cost-to-revenue ratio, which was achieved by staffing the customer service and in-house collections team, forging critical banking partnerships, and outsourcing non-essential functions. This comprehensive approach led to a significant improvement in debt collections, resulting in a 42% increase from July 2015 to January 2016, alongside a cost to recoveries ratio of 3.6%.

I was tasked with multiple projects that enhanced performance across the board. This included modernising the Customer Service and Collections functions, refining our Scoring Model, and driving Marketing efficiencies. With focus on streamlining operations, we introduced lean methodologies that reduced operational constraints and cut operational expenses by 15% year-on-year, thanks to a forward-looking strategy to outsource non-core activities such as Debt Collection Agencies, Retargeting, and Marketing.

In addition, we re-engineered the loan repayment process by integrating advanced CRM and contact-tracing technologies, which markedly decreased loss provisions and bolstered our profit and loss performance. Strategic renegotiations with vendors and service partners netted us an 18% operational savings, all without sacrificing service quality or continuity. A novel customer onboarding strategy was also introduced, incorporating technical enhancements that removed barriers to customer experience, resulting in a record 24% conversion rate. This approach included features like document uploads during the application process and a sophisticated triage system executed by our Call Center to re-engage customers who initially dropped out.
