I used to believe that too:

For years, I kept my struggles private.
Thought sharing them was indulgent.

That people didn't care about my journey.
That they wanted tactics, not stories.

So I stayed quiet.
And my content suffered because of it.

The biggest mistake I made when starting on LinkedIn?

Copying successful people's strategies.

• I studied the top voices.
• Analysed their formats.
• Mimicked their styles.

The result?

I sounded like everyone else.
Lost in the noise of similar content.

Then I realised something crucial:

Their strategies worked for them and their situations.
But they didn’t work for me and my situation.

You need to realise this too.

Sure, you can gain inspiration from those ahead of you.
But make sure it serves you and your goals.

Otherwise, you’re running around like a headless chicken.
And what’s the point in that?

When I realised I’d made this mistake,
I made an instant shift:

I started creating from my experiences and perspectives.

And before I knew it,
everything changed:

• My voice became distinct.
• My content became memorable.
• My audience became engaged.

What I discovered in the process was this:

You can study techniques.
But you can't copy authenticity.

So, my advice to you is simple…

Stop trying to be the next them.
Start being the only you.

My best friend turned 8 yesterday.

He's called Boomer and he's not even my dog!

I walk and feed him for a lovely man who used to coach my football team when I was a kid.

One of those genuinely good humans, you know?

But these past few years,
life hasn't been easy on him.

He lost his wife to cancer. 

Both his sons are also in the army.
They're the same age as me,
but he barely sees them.

He's doing alright now, though.

A youth football coach at a professional football team.
Owns a few rental properties.

He tells me how it doesn't feel like work.
And that's the dream, right?

He's proper social, too,
and takes Boomer with him everywhere he can.

But when he's away all day at football,
Boomer needs someone.

Enter: me.

Now, let me paint you a picture of Boomer.

He lives for exactly three things:
food, food, and food.

Oh, and sleep.
But only after he's eaten.

When I take him for walks,
it's less of a walk and more of a drag
(But a good kind of drag).

He's pulling me along while investigating every single smell in the neighbourhood.

Lamp posts. Bins. 
Random patches of grass that look completely identical but apparently smell wildly different.

Forensic-level sniffing happening here.

And the funny thing is, the only commands he responds too all the time are:
"sit" and "paw."

But that's only because he equates them with food.

He's basically scamming the system and I respect it.

Try calling his name, though?
"Boomer! BOOMER!"

You've got about a 5% chance he acknowledges.
Definitley selective hearing if you ask me.

I even have these mini conversations with him during walks. "Mate, how's your week been?"

Does he respond? Nope.
Does he care? Most likely not.

But, here's what gets me every time:
He's always smiling.

Tail wagging.
Living his best life.

The only thing he's fussy about is personal space. He doesn't want you right in his face.

And honestly?
I'm the exact same way.

Simple life. Simple needs.

Now writing this for me thinking...

Maybe we're all overthinking life.
Maybe we should all be a bit more like Boomer.

LinkedIn has a new type of post that I hate:

“The confident nothing.”

You’ve seen it many times, I’m certain.

It starts with a dramatic claim.
Then a neat list.
Then a soft, inoffensive takeaway.

Sure, it reads well.
But it says nothing!

And it’s everywhere because it’s easy to produce.
With AI, you can literally order one like a takeaway these days.

Yet, AI didn’t ruin content.
It just exposed how many people weren’t thinking anyway.

Because the real issue isn’t “using ChatGPT.”
The issue is outsourcing the only part that makes your content worth reading:

Not your hooks.
Not your formatting.
Not your “framework.”

Your perspective.

Your perspective is your lived pattern recognition.
It’s the conclusions you earned the hard way.
It’s what you noticed that others missed.

It’s all about:

Your contrarian viewpoints.
The details that prove you’ve lived it.
The trade-offs you choose on purpose.

AI can help you organise your perspective.
But it can’t give you one.

And when there’s no real perspective in your writing…

Your posts sound like anyone could’ve written them.
So they’ll be remembered by no one.

P.S. Be honest: are you posting your thoughts… or just words anyone could say?

Your competitors aren't smarter than you.

They're just less afraid of looking stupid:

You've got insights.
Real, hard-won, battle-tested insights.

But you're not sharing them.

Because what if people disagree?
What if someone corrects you?
What if you're wrong?

So you stay silent.

Yet, your competitors post their half-baked idea.

They get engagement.
Starts conversations
And builds visibility.

Are they smarter? Probably not.
Are they braver? Absolutely.

And in business, brave beats smart.

Because smart ideas hidden in your head create zero value.

Yet, even average ideas shared with the world create conversations, connections, and opportunities.

You're so worried about being perfect that you're invisible.
And invisible doesn't win.

So, here's what I want you to realise:

Every successful person on LinkedIn has posted things they later cringed at.
Every thought leader has been corrected in the comments.
Every "expert" has been wrong publicly.

And they're all still here.

Still growing.
Still winning.

Because the cost of being wrong occasionally is way smaller than the cost of never being seen.

P.S. What idea are you sitting on because you're afraid it's not good enough?

Not every comment deserves a DM.

Yet most people treat them all the same.

I see it constantly on LinkedIn.

I comment on someone's post,
and before I know it, they hit me in the DMs with:

“Hey, thanks for commenting!”

That’s a huge problem,
because it’s not the way to build relationships.

Especially when the subtext is pretty obvious:
“I need leads. Please be a lead.”

So, here's what I do differently:
I look for signals first.

Signals like:

・ People sharing what they're learning
・ Adding genuine depth to the discussion
・ A thoughtful question (not just a “great post!”)

Those tell me a conversation might make sense.
But I'm also filtering for:

・ Active, consistent profiles
・ People in my target niche
・ Thinkers, not just reactors

And I avoid these completely:

・ AI-generated comments
・ Generic engagement
・ Negativity

Most of them don’t lead to conversations anyway.
They just keep you busy.

So what you need to understand is this:

Sure, posting content builds your presence.
But selective follow-up creates relationships.

And relationships create:
trust → conversations → clients.

Yet, most people have no bridge from “nice comment” to “real connection.”

So they spray DMs at everyone,
and end up building a network that feels wide, but shallow.

When you’re selective with DMs, 
you’re not chasing volume.

You’re signalling standards.

And the right people notice.

What signals make you think, “This is worth a DM”?

2 years ago, I was proud of my value-first posts.

But that was my exact problem:

They were “good”… in the way a Google Doc is good.

Neat headings.
Useful bullets.
But zero pull.

I’d post… then stare at the screen like:
“Hello?”

No DMs.
No real replies.
No proper conversations.

And that’s when I realised what I’d missed…

I was writing ideas.
Not moments.

Yet LinkedIn doesn’t reward “good ideas.”
It rewards you when people stay on your posts and keep reading (known as dwell time).

So I stopped asking,
“How do I make this more valuable?”

And started asking,
“What actually happened?”

Because the stuff that holds attention isn’t the lesson.
It’s the scene before the lesson.

Since then, most posts I write start in a moment where something’s on the line:

・ A tiny decision that changed my whole week.
・ A conversation that opened my eyes.
・ An awkward moment I experienced.

That’s what gives a post tension.
And tension is what makes someone read the next line.

Once I started writing like that, everything changed for the better.

People didn’t just “like” my stuff.
They replied like they knew me.

And when they started bringing leads to my DM’s,
you guessed it, my business grew.

Not because I became smarter.
But because I stopped hiding the parts that were real.

PS: What’s the part of your story you keep trying to make sound “professional”?

A client told me, “My posts are doing well.”

So I asked them a question that killed the vibe:

“Is it bringing you clients?”

Silence.

That’s the trap.

LinkedIn will happily give you a standing ovation for a performance that doesn’t sell a single ticket.

And I get it.

Applause feels like proof.

It’s public.
It’s instant.
It makes your mum proud.

But buyers behave differently.

They don’t comment “facts.”

They screenshot.
They binge your profile.
They DM you: “Do you help with this?”

So now I aim for quiet intent.

I’ll write the post that makes the right person think: “Wait… are they talking about my situation?”

And I’ll gladly trade 500 likes for 5 DMs from people who actually need what I do.

Because I’m not running a popularity contest.
I’m running a business.

Planning can be a form of procrastination.

And January is the peak season for it.

You sit down, open a notebook…
and suddenly you’re “being productive.”

New goals.
New systems.
New colour-coded life.

But if you’re honest, it’s also a way to avoid the part that costs something.

Action.

Planning is safe.
It feels clean.
It keeps your identity intact.

Because as long as you’re planning,
you can still believe you’re the kind of person who does the thing.

Execution is messier.

Execution is where you find out:

・ What you value.
・ What you should avoid.
・ What you do when no one is watching.

So here’s a question I’m asking myself:

Am I planning to clarify…
or planning to delay?

Because those are two very different activities.
And your body usually knows which one it is.

2 years ago, I dreaded posting content.

But not for the reason everyone assumes.

It was quieter than fear,
but far more destructive.

Because it didn’t just affect my consistency.
It influenced the writing itself.

That was the uncomfortable reason my content wasn’t landing.

Not my hooks.
Not my formatting.
Not my “strategy.

But my energy was missing.

I’d sit there forcing posts out like homework.

Trying to sound “valuable.”
Trying to sound “professional.”
Trying to write what I thought I should write.

And the result was predictable:

• Polite engagement.
• No real connection.
• No inbound.

Then I made a simple shift with a huge impact:

I stopped writing content for viral appeal, and instead started writing from genuine interest.

And it's all because I realised this:

If you don’t enjoy creating it,
people won’t enjoy reading it.

Boredom leaks through the screen.

So before you write another “useful” post, ask:

• What story have I been holding back?
• What am I actually curious about right now?
• What opinion do I keep circling but never say?

That’s where your best content lives.
Not in “content calendars.”
In your actual mind.

Write from there and everything changes:

• Your words get sharper.
• Your voice gets clearer.
• And people start leaning in.

P.S. What’s one topic you’d happily talk about for an hour, even if nobody paid you?

I’d rather repel 90% of people than bore 100%.

Which sounds like a disaster… until you look closer.

Because “appealing to everyone” is the easiest way to build a brand nobody remembers.

2 years ago, I learnt that the slow way,
writing like I was trying to avoid trouble.

No strong opinions.
No real edge.

Just clean, correct statements.

It looked professional.
But it felt empty.

Then I noticed something embarrassing:

My posts that created real conversations were the ones that I felt nervous posting.

Not because they were controversial.
But because they were hyper-specific.

Specific enough that the wrong people leave,
and the right people recognise themselves in them.

And that’s when it all made sense to me:

If your brand doesn’t make some people think “not for me,”
it can’t make anyone feel “this is exactly for me.”

That’s why being liked is cheap,
but being clear is rare.

And clarity is what attracts the right people.

I've been writing content for 5 years.

And I still get imposter syndrome every single week:

Recently, I posted about authenticity.
It got thoughtful comments and a few DMs,
which is exactly why the next part surprised me.

20 minutes later, I was staring at a blank screen thinking:

・ "Who am I to talk about this?"
・ "What if people realise I'm still figuring it out?"
・ "What if I'm just pretending to know what I'm doing?"

Yet here’s what I came to realise…

I am still figuring it out.
Every single day.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

But that's not what makes me an imposter.
It’s what makes me human.

Because here's what I've realised:
Expertise isn't about knowing everything.

It's about knowing more than the person one step behind you.
And being willing to share what you've learned so far.

I'm not the world's best ghostwriter.
But I know more today than I did last year.

And I'll know more next year than I do today.
That's enough.

Your imposter syndrome isn't proof that you're a fraud.
It's proof you're paying attention to how much there is to learn.

The frauds are the ones who think they've figured it all out.

So if you feel like an imposter sometimes?
Good.

It means you're still growing.

Can we stop copy-pasting each other’s brains?

Because last year felt like a huge murmuring echo.

One person has one thought.
Then 4,000 people “borrow” the angle.
Then 40,000 ask AI to make it “original.”

Is this really the standard we’ve set?

If it is, then I’ve had enough of it!
Literally…

Nobody cares about all this generic AI nonsense.

It’s not even annoying.
It’s just plain right stupidity.

Because it doesn’t feel lived.

No first-hand experience.
No skin in the game.
No personal stakes.

All it is at this point is just polished words that could belong to anyone.
That’s the reality with AI these days.

But what AI can't do is hand you experiences you didn’t live.

(And if you’re faking that… mate. What are we doing here?)

For me, my perspective came from moments like:

・ Realisations from reading military history books.
・ Mistakes I made and how they shaped me.
・ How I’ve bet big on myself with mentorship.

AI can’t manufacture that.
And that’s the point.

The content people remember isn’t the most polished.
It’s the most personal.

Because it carries a human behind it.

So in 2026, I’m not interested in posts that sound “smart”.
I’m interested in posts that sound like someone has actually lived.

P.S. What’s one thing you want to see change on LinkedIn in 2026?

One day, I realised my content sounded nothing like me.

I’d fallen into the same trap so many leaders do:

Optimising for outcomes instead of resonance.

Every post had a job:

・ Get leads.
・ Trigger DMs.
・ Look “smart.”
・ Prove my credibility.

So I wrote like I was trying to pass a test.
Post. Perform. Repeat.

And it worked… on paper.

The formatting was clean.
The points were solid.
The “value” was there.

But something felt off…

It didn’t sound like me.
It sounded like an algorithm-trained version of me.

Then I remembered something Alan Watts once said:
“You don’t listen to a symphony to reach the end.”

That’s when I came to an important realisation...
I’d been treating content like a means to an end.

But people don’t stay for the end.
They stay for what happens inside it.

The tension.
The pause.
The line that makes them feel seen.

So I stopped writing to “get somewhere.”
And started writing to create moments worth staying for.

Less “how do I get a result?”
More “what do I actually mean?”

Now I write posts the way you create music:

・ A clear theme.
・ A little tension.
・ A human release.
・ A point that lands.

And ironically, that’s when my content started translating into business results.

Because when your writing resonates, people come back.
And that is what turns attention into trust.

Most founders don’t need more content.

They need a smaller ego.

I say that with love, because I’m included.

We all want to be original.
Clever. Fresh.

Like the algorithm will clap and present us with a trophy.

But authority doesn’t come from novelty.
It comes from depth.

That depth comes from deliberate repetition.

You'll see it in the people you trust the most online.
They repeat themselves all the time.

Just with better examples.
Sharper language.
More proof.

They pick a hill and live on it.
For months.
For years.

That repetition isn’t boring.
It’s branding.

It’s how belief forms in the reader’s brain.

So now I ask:

What’s the one idea I’m willing to explore from 30 angles?

If you can’t answer that, you’ll keep posting random thoughts and wondering why your audience feels random too.

We scroll past hundreds of posts daily.

But how many do we really see?

How many touch our soul?

Most just blur together.
An endless stream of:

• Perfect lives
• Perfect stories
• Perfect businesses

But perfection isn't real.
It never was.

The posts that stop us?

• They're raw.
• They're real.
• They're human.

Like this one.
Just thoughts on a screen.

No fancy formatting.
No expert advice.
Just truth.

Because sometimes,
that's all we need.

My start to 2026 got hijacked by my throat.

And my body’s acting very smug about it!

It really said:

“New year goals? Cute.
Here’s a sore throat instead.”

Four days into the week, and I’m:

・ Shivering like I'm in the Arctic
・ Nursing a headache that could split atoms
・ Having shivers that would make a horror movie jealous

All I wanted was to start 2026 all guns blazing.
Turns out the only thing blazing is my temperature.

I had plans.
Momentum.
A smug little “this year’s different” vibe.

Instead, I’m starting it barely breathing,
while my body calmly shuts down the whole operation like:

“No.
We’re doing ‘nothing’ today.
You’ll thank me later.”

Which is deeply inconvenient.
But also… fair.

Because no matter how well you look after yourself,
sometimes a little virus (or whatever this thing is) turns up and goes, “Not today, mate.”

P.S. To everyone crushing their goals right now... I'm not jealous. (I'm extremely jealous.)

I can spot AI-written content in 3 seconds flat.

And it's everywhere on LinkedIn right now:

People think they're being clever.

Using AI to "save time."
Copy and pasting with minimal edits.
Hitting post and hoping nobody notices.

But it’s so obvious when you know these clear signs.

Here's what gives it away instantly:

[1] Em dashes everywhere:

(Real people use periods—but AI loves these things—because it thinks—they add emphasis)

[2] The "not this, but that" formula:

(Success isn't about working hard. It's about working smart. Leadership isn't about titles. It's about influence. We get it, you've discovered unnatural sounding contrasts.)

[3] Every sentence is a fortune cookie:

("Authenticity is the new currency." "True leadership starts from within." Cool, but what does that actually mean?)

[4] Posts that feel like Frankenstein:

(Random ideas stitched together with no logical flow. Just abrupt topic changes that make zero sense.)

[5] Robotic transition phrases:

("And here's the kicker," "But here's what's fascinating," "That's when it clicked" - the AI special)

Look, I get it.

Creating content is hard.
AI makes it easier, for sure.

But if you're not adding your voice, experiences, and perspective?

You're just adding to the noise.

Your posts might get decent engagement.
But they won't build a real connection.

Because connection requires humanity.
And AI doesn't have that.

You do.

Use it.

P.S. What's the most obvious AI post you've seen this week?

I spent years giving advice.

And I watched almost nothing change.

I’d share tips,
strategies,
best practices.

People nodded.
Commented.
Reacted. 

But no one acted.
And no one remembered.

Then, I realised....

People don’t remember what you say.
They remember what they discover themselves.

So, that’s when I started experimenting.

Instead of telling my clients what to do,
I asked questions.

Instead of giving them answers,
I made them think.

The problem wasn't my knowledge.
It was how they consumed it.

Think of Socrates...

He didn’t lecture people on wisdom.
He asked questions that made them think.

Questions that revealed blind spots.
Questions that sparked insight.

That’s the missing piece.

So, have a think about this:

You shouldn’t always tell your clients what to do.
You should ask questions that make them own the discovery.

Instead of: “You should do this…”
Try: “What if you tried this instead?”

Instead of: “This is the best approach…”
Try: “How might this change your perspective?”

This approach is priceless because...

When they discover it themselves,
they act.

When they act,
they transform.

And transformation?
That’s what creates a lasting impact.

P.S. What’s the best question someone’s asked you recently?

I used to think trust was built on sales calls.

But one question changed everything for me:

A prospect once asked me:
“Why do you think I booked this call?”

I gave a strategic answer.

They laughed.

“No. I booked it because I already trusted you.”

And that’s when I came to this priceless realisation:

Trust isn’t created in the call.
It’s tested there.

It’s built long before in:

• The stories you share,
• The decisions you explain,
• The way you show how you think.

Once I understood that, everything shifted.

Calls stopped feeling like pitches.
They became conversations with people who already knew who I was.

And the reason calls feel this way now is because my content already shows people:

• Who I am,
• What I’m about,
• How I help/have helped others like them…

Before we even speak.
