↳ Here's what I would have done differently:

1. Cut the jargon.
2. No exclamations.
3. Use formatted lists (like this).
   
4. Use CAPS + symbols → for emphasis.
5. Break up long sentences over 2-3 lines.
6. Cut weak/redundant words e.g. really + that.
   
7. Short sentences save mental calories.
8. Get to the point (A → B asap).
9. Give a strong takeaway.

Say less. But better.
↳ The reader will thank you with their engagement.

How I designed a Featured section thumbnail with Canva

Simple marketing tip:

Don’t add value. Subtract it. 

Everyone loves to talk about “value”. 

Give value. 
Give actionable advice. 
Give everything away for free. 

Give. Give. Give. 

But giving too much actually complicates things. 

It makes you feel like you’re on a treadmill - you have to learn and discover more to keep up with the latest trends at all times. 

And it overwhelms your audience.  

They don’t need more information. 

Information is everywhere. And it’s cheap. 

What people need is clarity. 

Clarity in the steps they should take. 
Clarity in distinguishing signal from noise. 
Clarity in what they need to focus on right now. 

Above all, clarity in your message. 

Adding more only dilutes that.

So strip it back to the basics.  

1. “Here’s the one thing I offer” 
2. “Here’s the one person it’s for” 
3. “Here’s the one action you should take” 

Don’t overcomplicate it by adding more stuff.  

Make it about one thing. 

And subtract everything else.

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. 
 
Yesterday, I found myself at one such crossroad when I lost my remote freelance podcast editing job quite unexpectedly. 
 
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
 
On Tuesday my now ex-boss announced quite unexpectedly, that the podcast launch will be this Sunday. 

Hard working as I am I started the grind immediately. 

Then yesterday, she dropped another bomb saying thank you for your services. 

And just like that poof! She’s gone.
 
While it came as a shock, I've come to realize that every cloud has a silver lining. 
 
Here's my journey of analyzing, re-strategizing, and embracing new opportunities.

→ Self-Reflection: Given the time available to me now, (I hope its short), I will reflect on my career goals and aspirations. It's a chance to re-assess and align my professional journey with my personal growth.

→ SWOT Analysis: I can dedicate time to learn new skills and enhance my existing ones. This will make me more versatile and marketable in the job market.

→ New Opportunities: Being open to work will give me a chance to explore different avenues. I'm considering internships that can provide valuable experience and networking opportunities.
 
↓ Financial Impact: The sudden monetary loss is undeniable. Monday I need to pay the bills- guess what? The internet being the first one. God knows how I will apply after that. But I still have Today till Sunday. Wish me luck!

↓ Emotional & Mental Stress: Job loss can lead to major stress and anxiety. But I reassure myself that it's okay to ask for help and seek support during these tough times.

↑ Career Progression: This might be a temporary pause in my career progression. But I keep reminding myself, it's just a pause, not the end.
 
Going forward.

I'm open to work and am willing to take on internship opportunities that align with my career goals.

Creating a podcast episode requires careful planning and preparation. 
That's why having a script is crucial. Let me explain:


A script serves as a roadmap, guiding the flow of your podcast. 

It ensures that you stay on topic, cover all key points, and maintain a logical progression of ideas. 

This results in a coherent and engaging episode that resonates with your audience.

Without a script, you risk going off tangent, forgetting important points, or losing the thread of your narrative. 

This can lead to a disjointed episode that confuses listeners and dilutes the impact of your message.

Moreover, a script helps manage time effectively. 

It allows you to allocate appropriate time for each segment, ensuring that your episode is neither too short nor too long.

Lastly, a script aids in post-production. 

It makes editing easier as you have a clear reference for what should be included in the final cut.

While winging it might seem appealing for its spontaneity, 

having a script is essential for creating a structured, engaging, and impactful episode. 

It’s the difference between an amateur and a professional production.

7 Common mistakes to avoid when scripting a podcast:


1. 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Not spending enough time on research and preparation can lead to a disorganized and unengaging podcast. 
 
Always ensure you understand your topic thoroughly. 

2. 𝐈𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Not considering your audience’s interests and needs can make your podcast less relatable. 
 
Always keep your audience in mind when choosing topics and presenting information. 

3. 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: Using complex language or jargon can make your podcast difficult to understand. 

Aim for clarity and simplicity in your language.
 
4. 𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐨 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐝: Sticking too strictly to your script can make your podcast sound unnatural and robotic. 

Allow for some spontaneity and natural conversation flow.
 
5. 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Failing to properly introduce your topic or summarize key points at the end can leave your audience confused. 

Make sure to include a clear introduction and conclusion.
 
6. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠: Reading your script for the first time during recording can lead to mistakes and awkward pauses. 

Always practice reading your script aloud before recording.
 
7. 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭: Not taking the time to edit and revise your script can result in unnecessary information or errors. 

Always review and refine your script before recording.

By avoiding these common mistakes, you can create a more engaging and effective podcast script.

Last Thursday I was going about my work as usual nothing special happening. 

Processing raw audio, 

Editing done, 

But then when I upload it for a final finished soundtrack, it gets stuck.

And I’m sitting in my seat wondering what just happened. 

Turns out the bitrate was low. 

I’m like huh? Bit-what now?

After my trustworthy asst. “Google” ran a search on it, it showed that a bitrate should be min. 98-128 kbps for best audio quality.

What is bitrate you might ask? 

A bitrate is the amount of data stored in an audio file. 

For easy understanding a bitrate is what pixels are to a digital picture, made out of many tiny bits to make 1 whole audio file. 

The higher the bitrate the better the audio quality. 

But there is a caveat. 

The file size gets larger. 

There has to be a balance in order to maintain high audio quality without sacrificing disc space. 

Online cloud-storage apps like Dropbox are a good choice to solve this problem.

After knowing all this I made sure the next time I upload an audio file I will keep an eye out for the correct bitrate: 128 kbps minimum for a sound listening experience.

As I reflect upon this past holy month of Ramadan, it feels like yesterday that I started fasting. 

I learned many lessons but the most valuable ones are the company you keep are the real riches of life, not the money, status, or title.
