The Great Fix™ (coming soon) Every company that starts, starts with a decent idea. Half of them shut down by their fifth year. All the work splinters, and the hit to self-esteem leaves a lasting mark on the founders—so much so that it takes many years before they build something again, if they decide to do it at all. (been in that place myself) I believe these companies could have been saved. I believe every company truly deserves a chance to sustain and grow. Working at the vertical and horizontal intersections of different company types and JTBD, I have realized one big killer of growth that should have been the first focus. It is a word that is tossed around as if it were commonplace, yet the day a company recognizes its importance is the day they unlock something truly great. It is alignment. Work is siloed. There is zero alignment between marketing, sales, customer success, and countless promising solutions and hacks that only confuse the growth of these companies—resulting in a lot of work, but not much progress. There is a great fix needed before we can address the great ignore. Customers know that you don’t have it fixed, and hence they ignore you. Alignment precedes progress, which in turn precedes perfection. I am not saying that we could have saved all of these 50% of companies, but even if we were to save one, I feel my mission would be accomplished.
