Finance Positions

Research and publish competitive intelligence, and provide FP&A to Verizon's OneFiber & Network Transformation teams who are bringing next-generation fiber optic and 5G wireless technology to the telecommunications market.  Many telecom industry analysts believe that 5G technology will usher in the 4th Industrial Revolution.

•	Research, profile and track Verizon competitors, communication companies and executives using sell-side and industry analyst reports, as well as independent research, analysis, and investigation.  This provides the team with a view of how competitors view and engage the market and important personal aspects that can influence a competitor's decision makers.  Prepare individual SWOT analysis, cash flow, credit and capitalization profiles.  This provides our team information on which of our competitors has dry powder or access to the investment capital in order to execute their strategy, and who might be a little more capital constrained.   

•	Monitor, review and analyze competitor earnings announcements and Wall Street analyst calls for information regarding where competitors are heading, and how they fared against Street projections and the industry.

•	Research, compile, edit and publish a bi-weekly business intelligence e-zine newsletter on telecom news relating to 5G / Fiber optics, competitors, technology changes, and industry happenings. 

•	Backup the financial modeling team which relies on advanced Excel financial modeling techniques powered by VBA and fed by R-Studio data frames and analytics.  Calculate/estimate ad hoc DCF valuations, including detailed P&L/ financial statements, NPV, IRR, ROIC, and EVA.

Business Intelligence Manager

Calculated and estimated all costs-of-capital, WACC, risk premiums and optimal capital structures for Verizon Parent and strategic business units.  Member of Corporate Review Team: analyzed and evaluated strategic investments and real estate proposals greater than $5 million; including writing briefing memos and executive summaries for the Treasurer and executive management. Prepared dividend recommendation/presentations for the Verizon Board of Directors, performed ad hoc primary equity research & financial analysis; and assisted with debt compliance and rating agency relationships.

•	Assist with planning, developing, implementing and analyzing the AFP - Association of Financial Professionals, initial "Cost of Capital Survey". Following the 2008 ‘Credit Collapse’, significant declines in US Treasury rates led to perceived anomalies in costs of capital calculations and valuations. This survey provided an opportunity for financial practitioners and academics to anonymously and securely benchmark Capital Asset Pricing Model inputs during this time. The last similar broad CAPM survey was published by academic researchers more than a decade earlier.  

•	Analyze the abnormal returns on the stocks of companies that issued special dividends or accelerated dividend payments to shareholders in advance of changes in tax rates.  Concern over dividend taxation changes at the end of 2012 instigated attempts by corporation to shield cash returns to shareholders from excess taxes by prepaying dividends and/or issuing one-time special dividends.  This study found that there was no conclusive increase in total shareholder returns for companies that issued early or one special dividends during the analysis period.

Treasury Manager - Corporate Finance & Capital Strategy

Provided treasury consulting in cash management and forecasting techniques, foreign exchange, credit and capitalization, to Verizon international business units. Forecasted international cash flows, liquidity requirements, and FX exposure.  Forecasted foreign currency exchange rates using the PPP, Purchasing Power Parity model.  Liaise with Legal, International Accounting and Tax to ensure optimal capital structures, secure transparent funds flows, and duly authorized board resolutions.

•	Assist with $25M CTI Argentina Debt Restructuring, acquisitions of telecom properties                                 in Austria and Puerto Rico, and divestitures of European and Asian directory businesses. 

•	Provided cash management and investment policy consulting to the Dominican Republic                                and Puerto Rico telephone company’s treasury departments.

Manager, International Treasury

Verizon Ventures

Evaluated investment opportunities: analyzed operating markets and competitive landscapes; built advanced Excel financial and valuation models of investment target’s revenue and expense buildups; forecasted pro forma GAAP financial statements; discounted cash flow analysis and NPV valuations. Conducted deal due diligence; developed Microsoft PowerPoint presentations; closed approved venture capital investment transactions; oversaw portfolio tracking and data management.  
  
•	Analyzed, valued and assisted in closing Venture Capital investment transactions including: Apio, Filament, MiTu, Skyward, Veniam and Your Mechanic.  Venture capital investments allow Verizon to provide innovators with access to investment capital, the company’s vast ecosystem and a strategic roadmap.  This assists entrepreneurs with finding pathways to advance their own businesses, in return for providing to Verizon a glimpse and insight into future markets and potential competition.

•	Leadership role in expediting and successfully concluding, a long-standing, long-delayed project to research, review, select, sell, negotiate and implement a cloud based; browser accessed;                smart phone friendly; pipeline to funding to capitalization table to financial reporting to IPO;                         deal tracking system.  Verizon Ventures selected and installed Sevanta Deal Flow. Sevanta provides the frequently travelling venture capital team access to retrieve and update, prospective and portfolio financial statements and investment data, plus associated notes and information.

Manager - Strategy, Development & Planning

Genuity

Assisted in Computing costs of capital and evaluating alternative financing opportunities.  Prepare cash flow, interest income, and expense forecasts.  

•	Established new treasury operations / cash management functions for Verizon spin-off with $1.2 billion+ in revenues.  Led and assisted in constructing an Excel-based treasury workstation to replace XRT resulting in significant cost savings while maintaining control and clarity of banking, cash transaction, and accounting data.  Drafted new desktop procedure manuals, and cash management & investment policies and procedures.  Managed $1.9 billion short-term investment portfolio

•	Assist with outsourcing accounts payable, payroll and benefits functions, including preparation and evaluation of RFPs.  These projects resulted in significant operating cost savings while providing accounting, analytic and transparency improvements  

•	Led special Projects including $125 million HQ structured financing and $400 million accounts receivable/ asset-backed commercial paper program.

•	Assisted with structuring a $1 billion sale/leaseback of Tier 1 fiber, and $2 billion bond deal.  

The purpose of the financing projects was to fund future investments and as well as to establish capital markets credibility, following its successful $1.9 billion IPO.

Manager, Treasury Corporate Finance

GTE Corporation

Manage cash and liquidity for the GTE Corporation and 27 subsidiaries: analyze and forecast daily cash flows; manage short-term debt including $5 billion 3-dealer, commercial paper programs; bank relationships; credit agreements including $6 billion revolver. Supervise staff of five financial analysts processing average daily cash flows of $900 million through 1,100 bank accounts in 35 banks. Leadership roles in projects & RFPs including:

•	Assisting with moving Treasury functions from Stamford, CT World Headquarters to a new                 Headquarters in Irving, TX.  The project required hiring, training and developing a new cash management group. The Team was awarded Chairman’s Leadership Award for our positive results.

•	Coordinated treasury aspects of $3.5 billion sale of GTE Government Systems to General Dynamics, Verizon Wireless & Ameritech asset carve-outs and Genuity’s $2 billion IPO  

•	Re-engineered accounts payable & payroll reducing the number of disbursement banks from 15 to 2, and implementing full-reconciliation ‘Positive Pay’ with imaging to protect against check Fraud 

•	Electronic Funds Transfer Project which resulted in reducing 7 concentration banks down to 2,                     plus increasing electronic funds transfer security and quality of transaction reporting

•	Review, selection and implementation of a Sungard / XRT Treasury management workstation to improve cash management, smooth monthly accounting closings and expand financial reporting
