I don't schedule the discovery call immediately!
 
 
Earlier, when I started freelancing, I used to get on a discovery call as soon as I got the lead.
 
But due to this:
→ I looked unprepared on the call.
→ I didn't have clarity about the client's needs.
→ I didn't know how to close the deal.
 
But now, whenever I get the lead, I:
↳ Ask questions before going on the call.
↳ I research the client to understand more about them.
↳ I create a customized offer.
 
I schedule a call after a day because this gives me time for good research and to complete tasks that are on the priority list.
 
Now, I usually close the deal on the first call because of this approach.
 
Remember, you don't need to rush things; take your time.
 
Your approach can differ from mine, so I would like to know your approach.

I’m getting good impressions and engagement but I’m not happy about it.


Because I don’t associate my happiness with these numbers.

I have been into social media marketing for almost five and half years and through my experience I disagree with people who say numbers do not matter.

It matters, but if we attach ourselves with these numbers we will not be able to achieve the real goal.

I associate my happiness with:
→ The impact I'm creating. 
→ The positive reviews I’m getting.
→ The connection I’m building.
→ The leads I’m generating.

Those are my real success parameters. Numbers matter to me but these parameters matter even more.

What do you like to associate your happiness on LinkedIn?

It makes me happy when I see my clients are happy.

So here’s what I did when I onboarded my new client.

Instead of directly posting on LinkedIn I first:
↳ Sent a Q&A sheet to get clarity about the client.
↳ Researched the niche.
↳ Made a list of TAs.
↳ Made a new actionable banner. 
↳ Reworked on her headline.
↳ Added CTA link in the featured section
↳ Reworked on her “About” section.
↳ Created and approved 7 days of content in advance.
↳ Engaged for 3 days before posting the first content. 

So here’s my advice to anyone who is getting started to build their personal brand:
Research → Optimize → Create → Warmup → Post

But here is a simple hack that works well 99% of the time. 

→ Go to your profile 
↳ Scroll down to your older content. (Older than 1 month)
↳ Choose content that performed well. 
↳ Tweak the hook line, and post it again.

This works because you keep adding new people every day.

Your old community members are already so busy in their lives that they will not even remember what you posted 1 month back.

Plus you keep learning new things, so you can re-write and add new inputs to old content.

So why waste the potential of popular content? 

Reuse it!

This is a common excuse that people give.

They say:

So here’s my advice that I follow daily:
1. Use simpler words, fewer words and catch the attention.
2. Comment to have conversations & not for reach.
3. Share experiences no matter good or bad.
4. Find and connect with new people often.
5. Show support to your competitors.

I recently read a news that a US-based IT company laid off 800 employees.

And I keep reading such news every week.

So, is it really a good idea to depend only on a 9 to 5 job?

My 4-year-old niece went blank during her first performance at the school's annual function.
 


'I messed up,' she told me holding back her tears.

I converted a lead into a client in our first 30-minute discovery call.
 


 
Recently, I got a new inbound lead from a founder asking about my ghostwriting services.
 
The interesting part is that she was not even following me. (Remember, they are always watching you.)
 
I gave her a brief intro about my experience and asked her if we could schedule the call.
 
She agreed to do it, and after two days, we connected over a video call. 
 
But wait, that’s not it! 
 
Before going on a call: 
↳ I studied her profile and her company's profile.
↳ I analyzed where she needed my help.
↳ I customized my offer.
 
This process is what helps me close clients on the first call.
 
So,
→ Be ready with your research.
→ Be ready with your offer.
→ Be ready for more customization.
 
This will help you keep the flow of the call under your control.
 
Your aim should be to have minimal to no friction in any situation.
 
What I do is, evaluate the situations in advance and be ready with my answers.

Aim for closing in the first call because the more follow-ups the lesser the chance of closing the client.

I might not have told you this but I’m fighting my demons.
